“It’s Sad, but It’s Real”- 'Pluribus' Star Rhea Seehorn Weighs in on Carol and Zosia’s Relationship

Carol and Zosia share an oddly magnetic bond as two figures entangled within the vast and lonely architecture of Pluribus, where isolation shapes both hearts and minds. Their emotional tension has become one of the most touching parts of the series. And Rhea Seehorn might have some explanations.

Rhea Seehorn, when posed with the question whether Carol truly has love for Zosia, quite simply stated that it is a very complex issue and one that Carol even undergoes emotionally. The actress pointed out that Carol being drawn to Zosia is perhaps even stronger because Zosia possesses qualities that Carol holds dear.
"There are things about Zosia that she really does love; she's also human, and they sent her what they knew was Carol's ideal physical woman. It's sad, but it's real. A part of [Carol] is willing herself to be there, and to love her, because the alternative is so, so terrifying," Seehorn revealed in a reflective chat with GQ.
On the other hand, Carol’s feelings are greatly linked with her intense fear of being alone; the other option, facing the world utterly alone, is a nightmare for her. In that sense, Carol picks intimacy because survival seems hopeless without it.
Rhea Seehorn further discussed that Carol possibly goes back and forth in her mind about her past life with Helen, and how she was the one to cut joy and fun out of her life. This self-reflection makes her interactions with Zosia charmingly sad.
"I think she loves part of her for real, but I don't think she can disentangle that from being terrified of the alternative," Seehorn added while speaking to the outlet, making it clear that this bond is a complex mix of genuine love and a frantic hold on to another human after tremendous loneliness, hence the resulting engrossing tension leaving room for more to come.
And with that, the Apple TV record-breaking series ends its first season, dropping a literal atom bomb, its purpose unclear, however, setting up a greater conflict for a potential Season 2.
Is there a Pluribus Season 2 in the works?
Absolutely! Pluribus Season 2 is officially in the works, ready to answer whether Carol chooses the girl or the world. Right after the premiere of the sci-fi drama, Apple TV+ announced the second season as part of a two-season straight-to-series order.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the show's creator Vince Gilligan and his team have already started working on the new plot. But the wait might be biblically maddening.
"We’re working on it. It takes us a while. I would love to go faster if I could," Gilligan told the outlet.

Nevertheless, production schedules indicate that the second season most probably would not be hitting the screens before late 2027 or 2028, as there is still no official release date. However, speaking to Variety, Gilligan shared that the show could run for at least four seasons.
Meanwhile, all of Season 1 is available to stream on Apple TV+, along with the open-ended complexities of Carol and Zosia's relationship, up for further heart-wrenching interpretations.
