Woody Harrelson has recently teased his upcoming reunion with Matthew McConaughey in Apple TV+’s comedy Brothers and promised fans it will be very different from their acclaimed True Detective collaboration. It will be a fictionalized version of them, Harrelson told the audience, Variety reported. The actor also discussed the project in a 90-minute career conversation with festival audiences.

“If you like ‘True Detective’ and you want more of that, it’s not this,” Harrelson told the audience at the Sarajevo Film Festival, teasing fans that the Brothers will take their reunion in a much lighter and more comedic direction.

Harrelson was awarded an honorary Heart of Sarajevo Award at the Sarajevo Film Festival. During the same event, while drinking and joking with the audience, he explained that the idea for Brothers started to take shape when he started to think about how much fun it would be as a series (via Variety). He further said that the show will feature the actors in the vein of Curb Your Enthusiasm. The unusual premise allows them to explore a playful, exaggerated version of their real-life relationship, but the tone is strictly comedic.

Brothers, produced by The Office producer Lee Eisenberg, centers on Harrelson and McConaughey as they find a family secret that has been kept for decades and that could mean they are actually brothers. The story is loosely based on true events, as Harrelson once said that his father had a relationship with McConaughey’s mother around the time McConaughey was conceived. This creates an interesting real-life connection to the fictional comedy.
