In an era when social media has become almost unavoidable for celebrities, Sandra Bullock was among the few stars who chose to keep her distance from the digital spotlight. But that changed in April 2026, when she surprised fans by joining Instagram for the first time. Many assumed the popular social media platform for socializing had finally caught the actress’s attention.

Meanwhile, others speculated that Bullock had joined Instagram to promote her upcoming film, Practical Magic 2. However, the truth turned out to be quite different. She decided to join the platform to protect her family and the people around her.

Sandra Bullock revealed the reason behind her Instagram handle

Sandra Bullock recently appeared on the SmartLess podcast, where she revealed that she decided to join Instagram to stop scammers from using her likeness to deceive others. She recalled that her sister had been approached by several people who claimed that Bullock had taken money from them. And much to her relief, creating her own handle, helped the actress, at least for a while.

“I had no intention of ever going on social media. It was never my calling. And then once I did that, it stopped a little bit, but it doesn’t really. It’s just never-ending,” she said.

What Bullock said on the podcast was not a surprise. Back in February 2025, the actress had already warned fans about scammers impersonating her on Instagram. She revealed that several people were pretending to be her on the platform and assured fans that she would speak more about the issue. While the scams have not completely stopped, Bullock’s real account has given fans a reliable way to distinguish her from the impersonators.

Moreover, now, it also allows fans to get a rare glimpse into the actress’s life, along with updates on her upcoming film, Practical Magic 2. While Bullock returned to reprise her role in the sequel, it also reunited her with former co-star Nicole Kidman.

Practical Magic 2 will reunite Sandra Bullock with Nicole Kidman

Practical Magic followed sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, who grew up in a family of witches and were raised by their two witch aunts. The film followed the sisters battling against a centuries-old curse which said that any man who falls in love with an Owens woman is doomed to die young. Years later, the Owens family must once again confront the curse and find a way to break it for good, and this time with a new generation of witches leading the mission.

Practical Magic 2 reunites Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, who reprise their roles as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens for another magical adventure. It will follow Sally’s daughter, Kylie, who after discovering her own magical powers sets out to break the centuries-old curse, bringing the entire family together, including Sally and Gillian’s aunts. Joey King and Maisie Williams played the new sister duo in the film, while Lee Pace, Xolo Maridueña and Solly McLeod are also part of the cast.
