Jason Sudeikis says the public story of his split from Olivia Wilde was never as simple as it looked from the outside. A recent podcast conversation gave the Ted Lasso star space to look back on that chapter of his life. The talk arrived soon after the Season 4 finale of his Apple TV comedy aired earlier this month. Sudeikis took the chance to fill in what the headlines left out.

While the internet likes its stories tidy, with a clear hero and a clear loser, Sudeikis offered a messier and kinder view.

Jason Sudeikis says the public flattened his split from Olivia Wilde into a tale of right versus wrong, and real life never works that way. The Ted Lasso star raised the point on the Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso podcast after the host asked what coverage of the separation missed.

“And to be clear, this isn’t like, all evil is just misunderstood or something like that,” he said.

He then added, “These interpersonal situations that then get portrayed as being these binary situations of right and wrong… It’s always more complicated.”

In short, he wants people to see two humans instead of two sides.

The split drew heavy attention in 2022, when Wilde was served custody papers during her CinemaCon appearance. On the Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso podcast, Sudeikis said the coverage missed a million little things, yet the experience gave him empathy for others in the same position. He would not wish it on anyone, though he praised Wilde as very good at what she does and said he is thrilled for her.

News, he said he wants his children, Otis Alexander and Daisy Josephine, whom he shares with Olivia Wilde, to understand that power. Alongside Wilde, Sudeikis joked that their biggest goal is making sure the kids do not turn into little turds. The show that shaped those values also took him closer to home, since season 4 began filming in Kansas City in July 2025 before returning to London. Gratitude and humility, it seems, travel well beyond the screen. Family life, as Sudeikis knows, is always more complicated than a headline.
