Crystal Lake is expected to be more terrifying than the original movie. Friday the 13th remains one of the hit horror slasher movies, and what made it famous was its fascinating plot twist, which is that Pamela Voorhees is the culprit. Its success spawned several sequels, with Pamela Voorhees’ son, Jason Voorhees, becoming the culprit.
While the franchise turned the mother and son into a horror duo, their story before the tragedy has not been explored. That is about to change with the new prequel series, Crystal Lake. And as the creator hints, it will be even scarier than the original movie.
Crystal Lake will be more brutal than films
Crystal Lake creator Brad Caleb Kane shared a few details during his appearance at New York Comic Con. He shared that the upcoming series is set to take a refreshing approach while also showing what fans of the original movies are fond of. And that begins with creative kills, with Kane assuring fans that there will be plenty featured in the series.
“So if you’re wondering if we’re ever going to go full fathom Friday the 13th, we go there and we drop a lot of bodies in really creative ways. It’s a lot more brutal. I think it’s even more brutal in many ways from some of the movies,” he said.

During the event, the creator further shared (via The Hollywood Reporter) that the show will also focus on Pamela Voorhees’ story, adding that quite a few episodes will shed light on who she was as a loving mother and how she turned into the slasher who appears in the original movie. The series will also focus on Jason before his drowning in the lake.
The series is expected to take an emotional approach, with even more gruesome kills in store. And the story will be brought to life by a talented cast.

The series will bring back familiar as well as new characters, played by a new cast, along with some characters who never got much time in the movies. It will have eight episodes and will be available to binge-watch on October 15, 2026, on Peacock.
