Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Taylor-Joy did not shy away from acknowledging how difficult it was to navigate her experience working with George Miller on Furiosa. Her reflections point to a creative process that demanded restraint, patience, and constant negotiation over the character’s emotional arc.
“It’s a very difficult conversation to have,” she admitted to The Hollywood Reporter. “If I were to be completely honest about my experience, it would hurt nobody but myself.”
She added, “I just advocated and advocated and advocated for her to live up to her name.”
Anya Taylor-Joy explained to The Hollywood Reporter that she spent months pushing for her interpretation of Furiosa’s journey, especially regarding how her character would ultimately confront Dementus, played by Chris Hemsworth. For her, the moment wasn’t just about resolution on screen, but about ensuring Furiosa’s final choices reflected the emotional weight and identity she believed the character carried throughout the story.
While her Mad Max chapter sparked intense discussion, Taylor-Joy is now stepping into another expansive universe, this time in fantasy.
Stepping into middle-Earth with a new face in the legend
Anya Taylor-Joy has officially joined The Hunt for Gollum as Seren, an original Sindarin Elf created specifically for the film. Seren is described as a skilled and loyal agent of King Thranduil, placing her within the political and military structure of the Woodland Realm. Set in the narrative gap between Bilbo Baggins’ birthday celebration and the journey to Moria, the film follows Aragorn and Gandalf as they track Gollum before he can expose the truth of the One Ring.
With returning figures like Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, and Lee Pace, alongside new additions such as Kate Winslet and Leo Woodall, the project signals a significant expansion of Middle-earth’s cinematic timeline. Seren’s introduction adds a fresh layer to a world balancing legacy characters with newly imagined roles.
