What went down between Jake Hyde and Ryan Reynolds during their first meeting?

Jake Hyde was one of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s first signings after their takeover in 2021. Shortly after Hyde joined the Red Dragons, he had to work with cameras everywhere as the duo were filming Welcome to Wrexham. While the striker had no problem being under the spotlight, Hyde lost his cool when he first came across the Deadpool star. During his recent appearance on the RobRyanRed Podcast, the player described his experience, saying, “It was so mad.”

Interestingly, Hyde behaved more like a Reynolds fanboy than a football star during his first interaction with the duo. He admitted that he was a massive fan of the Canadian actor and had watched plenty of his films. As hilarious as it may sound, Hyde told Reynolds that he loved his movie, The Change-Up, even before introducing himself to the actor. The former Wrexham star humbly confessed how it was “stupidly, and probably the least cool thing I’ve ever done in my life.”

Jake Hyde even seemed embarrassed while he narrated the incident to the host. While the player had an unlikely first meetup with the boss, he could not hold himself back from praising the Deadpool star.

Jake Hyde arguably had one of the most hilarious introductions among every other Wrexham player. However, Reynolds instantly made him feel at home at the Race Course. The star striker was all praises for the Canadian actor, which he described during his appearance on the podcast. Hyde called Reynolds a top bloke. He further added, “The person he is, I can’t speak highly enough of him.“

The former Wrexham star revealed how, despite playing for ten different clubs, he had never had a chairman wish him on his birthday until he joined the Red Dragons. Even though short-lived, Hyde had a good run at Wrexham. The player scored three goals and a couple of assists during the 2021–22 season. The Yeovil Town striker soon saw the bench after Ryan Reynolds’ favorite player, Paul Mullin arrived at the club.
