Kevin Feige has already clarified that it was Ryan Gosling who pitched Ghost Rider to Marvel and not the other way around. The San Diego Comic Con on July 25 was a treasure trove of new information for Marvel fans, who were surprised with two new films that are slated to come after the release of Avengers: Secret Wars. 

It was announced during Marvel’s Hall H presentation at the event that 2028 will be embellished with a Ghost Rider and a Black Panther movie. However, between the two movies, the majority of the hype went to Ghost Rider as Ryan Gosling was announced to be the new Johnny Blaze.

The excitement was whetted even further as Kevin Feige revealed how the movie came to be and what Gosling’s role was in it.

Right from the time of the announcement of the film to the revelation of Ryan Gosling as the new Ghost Rider in the MCU, Kevin Feige has remained tight-lipped about the details of the upcoming movie. After the Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic Con, Empire approached him for comments, and he had only this to say:

“It was Gosling who had the vision. It was Gosling who had the pitch that won over Shawn, that had them come and pitch us this idea, which led to us on stage today.”

Other than the movie coming out in 2028, we do not know anything about it so far. Interestingly, there is no movie slated for 2027 between Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which comes out in December 2027. The only two movies announced at the event are for 2028 scheduled.

When Empire asked Feige about this unusual decision in the same interview, he responded by saying that they are right now focusing solely on quality rather than quantity, and with two major Avengers movies coming out, they cannot afford to be stretched too thin with other projects. The importance of these two movies alone is way too much for them right now.

Coming back to Ryan Gosling’s pitch, it was actually first presented to director Shawn Levy, and then it was taken to Marvel.

When Ryan Gosling was talking about playing the new Ghost Rider at the San Diego Comic Con, he said that he could not have imagined doing the movie with any director other than Shawn Levy. The Deadpool & Wolverine director has been at the helm of the actor’s upcoming Star Wars movie, Starfighter, where he first told Levy about his vision for a Ghost Rider movie.      

Levy did not take too much time to have confidence in his vision and finally said to him, “Bro, let’s ride!” They both then took the pitch to Marvel, who then took up the project with Gosling in the lead and Levy in the director’s chair. The internet is also running wild with rumors of Eva Mendes’ return to the franchise, but it is not confirmed yet. Anyhow, it will be interesting to see how Gosling’s vision for the movie unfolds.
