Robert Pattinson has revealed that he did not expect Lance Oppenheim’s refusal to call cut at certain times to lead to magic on the screen. There is absolutely no doubt that Robert Pattinson is one of the finest actors of his generation. His acting credits in films like Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Matt Reeves’ The Batman speak for themselves. So one would assume that he knows almost everything about acting and the art of performing and capturing a scene, right? 

But apparently, there are some things that surprise even an actor like Robert Pattinson. 

While talking to Film Updates recently about his latest release, Primetime, Robert Pattinson shared something about the filming process with director Lance Oppenheim. Oppenheim, who has for the very first time directed a full feature-length film, would refuse to call cut, letting the scene go on and see if it goes somewhere interesting other than the intended ending.

“The amount of times where Lance just wouldn’t cut at the end of the scene and he said, ‘I just want to see where it goes.’ I’m like, ‘Dude, it’s not gonna go anywhere. It’s literally, that’s the end of the scene.’ But sometimes, weirdly, it suddenly would,” said Pattinson.

While it is not unheard of for directors to push the actors to the very extreme to bring out the best from them, this can get a bit annoying for actors as they do not have an exact idea where a scene should go beyond a certain point, which might lead to awkwardness. However, sometimes it is this awkwardness that forces real reactions out of actors.

And as acknowledged by Robert Pattinson himself, this tactic often worked in favor of the scene getting something unexpected that enhanced the overall flow of the emotions in the narrative. Besides, Pattinson mentions to Film Updates that it is actually fun to play around with the scene a little bit more and actually see where it goes.

The effort from both the actor and director seems to have paid off with Tomatometer buzzing with rave reviews.

With early reviews now public, it is evident that the overwhelming anticipation was entirely justified. Primetime currently holds a strong 89% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with major critics applauding both the movie's sharp technical craftsmanship and Robert Pattinson's compelling transformation into a fictionalized take on legendary To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen.

While a significant portion of the praise highlights the project's unique visual aesthetic, the lion's share of the acclaim is rightfully focused on Pattinson's standout performance. Blending the film's distinct visual style with Pattinson's deeply dedicated lead portrayal, critics largely agree that Primetime stands as a bold creative gamble that ultimately succeeded.
