Tim Robbins and Jason Bateman recently had a conversation about getting older, fear of injury, and life’s realities. We spend the first half of our lives treating our bodies like they are entirely indestructible. From weekend sports injuries that heal by Monday morning to late-night adventures with zero consequences, youth is defined by a quiet, subconscious invincibility. But eventually, a subtle shift occurs. A minor stumble takes a week to stop aching, or a simple stretch pulls a muscle, and the stark reality of aging sets in. For many, this realization brings a quiet, nagging anxiety: the fear of getting hurt.

Talking about that fear, Jason Bateman discussed the topic with another very famous actor, Tim Robbins.

On the most recent episode of his podcast, SmartLess, which he hosts with Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, Jason Bateman invited Tim Robbins to join them for a relaxed chat on anything and everything involving Dungeons & Dragons, Cough Drops, Strat-o-matic baseball, and advancing age and the fear of injury.

"It starts to wear on you after a while," Bateman said on the podcast about the frequent injuries that come with old age.

The conversation started when the Ozark actor suddenly shifted to the fear of injury while talking about soccer. He shared that he is worried about getting injured, like blowing out a hamstring or his lower back, every time he gets active. This got Robbins to ask him whether his inhibitions about injuries were always there or if they are a product of advancing age.

In response, Will Arnett jumped in to defend Bateman, saying that the actor-director has always been athletic, whether it is softball or golf. But he injures easily, like he will pull a muscle even while grabbing a Greek yogurt out of the fridge, Arnett quipped further on their SmartLess podcast. However, Bateman revealed that he has already made peace with this reality, and Robbins also contributed to the conversation by revealing that he does not really fear injuries that much.

Jason Bateman right now is totally focused on directing movies which boast off big stars. First is the dark comedy The Cackling of the Dodos, starring Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell, and the other is a John Grisham adaptation called The Partner, starring Tom Hoolland. Out of these two, the former has already entered post-production, and the latter is still in development.

So, the movie Bateman is currently working on might be The Cackling of the Dodos for some reshoots or something. The film centers on George, a small-town farmer who discovers a dead body in a grain bin and is pulled into a disorganized, chaotic cover-up by his dubious boss. The movie is supposed to drop sometime in 2027 on Netflix.
