St. Elmo's Fire remains one of the most memorable Brat Pack films, instantly grabbing audiences with seven Georgetown graduates celebrating before adult realities test their friendships and ambitions. The 1985 Joel Schumacher-directed classic captured post-college uncertainty through Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, and Mare Winningham.

Four decades later, fans are still curious about where Billy, Jules, Kirby and the rest landed. Now, after years of conversations and abandoned adaptation plans. Lowe says a sequel is finally moving forward.

During Sunday's Watch What Happens Live, Rob Lowe gave the clearest update yet on the follow-up to St. Elmo's Fire. Asked where the project stood, he said.

"It is definitely in the works, for sure," before confirming that the original actors are interested in returning and expect to receive a draft during the first week of October.

That marks a shift from Lowe's comments to Entertainment Tonight in July 2024, when he revealed that he had met with the studio and had discussed the idea for four months. At the time, he stressed how early the process was. The latest update puts pages within reach, although Variety reports no production start or release date.

Demi Moore had already confirmed in 2024 that discussions were taking place with Sony. She explained that the project still needed the right writer. The appetite for a reunion existed before Lowe's latest remarks, while a forthcoming draft gives the idea a firmer foundation.

Lowe's sequel update suggests the original gang may finally get another chapter, but the actor is still haunted by a piece of 1980s history.

Rob Lowe revisited his infamous 1989 Academy Awards opening during SiriusXM's Andy Cohen Live, joking that he felt relief when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.

"I was the only person happy," Lowe said, explaining that he briefly believed the slap had replaced his Snow White musical number as the ceremony's most notorious embarrassment. It did not work out that way.

Lowe told Cohen he still gets dragged whenever old Oscar disasters are revisited and joked that there should be a statute of limitations. His performance paired him with Eileen Bowman as Snow White for a rendition built around "Proud Mary," a sequence that has spent decades living in Academy Awards folklore.
