Olivia Colman might be ready to trade her awards-season glory for a license to command MI6, and Conan O’Brien is more than happy to help her make the case.

The Oscar-winning actress has never been shy about wanting to join the James Bond universe, but her dream role comes with a rather important letter attached: M. While the next 007 is still generating plenty of casting speculation, Colman has already made her own ambitions crystal clear.

And during a recent podcast appearance, she found herself with an unexpected campaign team ready to make some calls.

Olivia Colman wants to be M and the universe is adding more people on her side for it

It is no secret that Olivia Colman has time and again expressed her desire to play M in the James Bond franchise. And appearing on Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Colman was reminded of this longstanding desire. Conan playfully teased her about the ambition, while co-host Matt Gourley clarified that he had been rooting for her to take on the role for ages.

The conversation soon turned into a potential casting pitch. Conan revealed they had recently met David Heyman, the producer behind the upcoming Bond film and the Paddington franchise. Colman immediately recognized the name, noting that she already knew Heyman. That was all Gourley needed to hear.

“Okay, let’s make this happen,” he exclaimed, before delivering the rallying cry: “It has to be you.”

With Conan and Gourley practically ready to launch a full-scale MI6 recruitment operation, Colman’s campaign suddenly got enthusiastic backing on Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend. Whether Heyman is listening remains another matter, but the actress certainly isn’t letting the opportunity pass her by.

And while Colman is busy lobbying for a seat behind Bond’s intelligence desk, she has another rather unusual project making waves with audiences and critics alike.

Wicker’s weird romance has critics falling for its wooden charm

Olivia Colman’s latest film, Wicker, has been attracting considerable attention for its decidedly unconventional love story. The fantasy romantic comedy stars Colman as a lonely fisherwoman who commissions a husband made of wicker, played by Alexander Skarsgård, from a basketmaker portrayed by Peter Dinklage.

The film has earned an overwhelmingly positive response from critics, with Rotten Tomatoes reporting a 95% critics’ score and a 92% audience score at the time of writing. Reviews have particularly praised Colman’s performance, Skarsgård’s unexpectedly tender turn, and the film’s eccentric blend of romance, sensuality, and dark humor.

The reception has not been unanimous, however. Some critics have pointed to pacing issues and a screenplay that struggles to sustain its unusual premise throughout its runtime.

Still, Wicker has clearly struck a chord with viewers looking for something far stranger than a conventional romantic comedy. Between a wooden husband and Colman’s dream of becoming Bond’s boss, the actress is having quite the unconventional year.
