Stuart Fails to Save the Universe may have brought back the same characters from The Big Bang Theory, but the two shows are quite different from each other, as Lauren Lapkus revealed. More than six years after the original sitcom ended, the new spin-off takes a surprising turn across multiple universes. It follows beloved character Stuart Bloom as he tackles a series of bizarre challenges after accidentally breaking a time-travel device created by Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter.

However, as Lapkus, who appears as Denise in the both the series, explained, the experience of filming the two shows has been much different.

Lauren Lapkus recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to talk about her ongoing show, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. When asked about reuniting with the cast for the spin-off, she admitted that it was indeed a surprising offer. Lapkus further explained that the focus is now on previously recurring characters from the universe, while the filming process feels almost like making a movie.

“It's totally different. It's like The Big Bang Theory is a sitcom on a stage with an audience. We are shooting it like a movie. It's like it feels like an action movie. Sometimes it's pretty crazy,” she told Fallon. 

During their conversation on the show, Fallon further asked Lapkus about the numerous stunts the cast has had to perform for the show. He then showed a picture of Lapkus hanging from wires above a giant fan on the set of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. Lapkus revealed that the stunt was for a scene in which the characters are falling through a black void. These unexpected and bizarre challenges explain how the spin-off, despite being set in the same universe as The Big Bang Theory, has taken a very different and exciting direction.

As Lapkus revealed, the sci-fi comedy series has continued to throw its characters into unusual situations, with the most recent episode having them become trapped inside a comic book.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe has continued to surprise both its characters and viewers with several bizarre multiverse issues as Stuart and his crew race to fix reality. Most recently, the crew found themselves trapped inside a comic book, where they discovered Gotham City being terrorized by Mr. Freeze. And their solution was to bring in the Flash.

So, while the series has plenty of intense action, it has not strayed from its comedic side, ensuring plenty of big laughs along the way. Now, in the next episode, Stuart and his crew find themselves stuck in a world where they can hear laughter but cannot find the source. And if the show has hinted at anything so far, it is that every episode brings a new, even bigger problem for Stuart and his crew to overcome.
