The title of Hugh Jackman’s new movie, The Death of Robin Hood, may have already prepared audiences for the worst. And the actor has seemingly confirmed an emotional and turbulent cinematic ride with an obvious spoiler. Jackman, who has portrayed several iconic historical and comic-book characters throughout his career, will play yet another legendary character, Robin Hood, in his upcoming film, directed by Michael Sarnoski.

However, while Jackman continues to expand his impressive filmography with new characters, he appears unable to escape a recurring fate that has followed many of his roles. In teasing his new film, the actor seemingly revealed a major spoiler, suggesting that he may once again fall victim to the same tragic curse.

Hugh Jackman recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to talk about his upcoming film, The Death of Robin Hood. During the conversation, Fallon pointed out that many of Jackman’s characters in previous films died. While the actor acknowledged the unfortunate fate of many of his past roles, Jackman hinted that his next movie may not be much different.

“I prefer to do it on film, he said. “Spoiler alert. 'The Death Of Robin Hood,' it doesn't end well.”

That spoiler is already somewhat implied by the film's title, but Jackman's comment suggests there could be an emotional journey before the inevitable ending. However, he is no stranger to playing complex characters who often meet tragic fates. His portrayal of the obsessive magician Robert Angier in the 2006 film The Prestige ends in tragedy as the character becomes consumed by his quest to perfect a magic trick.

Jackman's character, Wolverine, also dies in Logan while trying to save a group of mutant children. Another of his memorable roles, Jean Valjean, passes away from old age in the 2012 film Les Misérables. What is particularly interesting, however, is the wide range of unique characters Jackman has portrayed throughout his career.

Emmy-winning Adolescence writer Jack Thorne is set to write the screenplay and will also serve as an executive producer on the project. As of now, few details about the film have been revealed. While it seems unlikely that Jackman's pirate character will meet the same fate as some of his previous roles, it remains to be seen whether Long John Silver will help the actor break his streak of portraying characters with tragic endings.
