Few MCU characters have had a more emotionally devastating journey than Wanda. She went from an Avengers ally to one of the most powerful magic-wielders in the multiverse, with grief and the Darkhold turning her into a formidable threat. Then came Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which ended with Mount Wundagore collapsing around her. Marvel never showed her body afterward, leaving fans clinging to the possibility that she survived.

Now, with VisionQuest continuing the story that began with WandaVision, the question has returned with a vengeance. Could Vision’s latest chapter finally bring his beloved Wanda back, or is Marvel saving its biggest Scarlet Witch surprise for the Avengers’ next showdown?

Is Wanda Maximoff really dead, or is Marvel playing another magic trick?

For now, VisionQuest has not brought Wanda back to life on screen. The series follows White Vision, who has regained the original Vision’s memories but is still trying to understand his identity. Naturally, those memories include his relationship with Wanda, making her absence an emotional part of his journey.

The show has also offered a sobering reminder of what happened at Mount Wundagore. Vision refers to Wanda being crushed beneath a mountain, suggesting that the MCU’s resident synthezoid believes she died in Multiverse of Madness. However, the series has not completely extinguished the hope that she could return. One of its characters hints that when witches, spells, and hexes are involved, something tends to survive. In a franchise where death can be more of a revolving door than a locked exit, that line is bound to get fans theorizing.

Still, the survival clue does not necessarily mean Wanda herself is alive. The story also follows Tommy Maximoff, whose own extraordinary survival connects directly to the magical chaos surrounding Wanda and her children. So far, Elizabeth Olsen has not been confirmed as a present-day cast member of VisionQuest, and Wanda’s appearances in the series have been through references and memories rather than a full-fledged return.

And if the MCU really is preparing a grand comeback for Wanda, there is another looming threat that could make her return much more dramatic.

Could the Scarlet Witch join Doctor Doom’s side in Avengers: Doomsday?

Amid Marvel giving different scripts to the Avengers: Doomsday cast and their secrecy around the film in pure MCU fashion, the prospect of Wanda appearing echoes loudly due to plenty of fan theories, particularly after promotional material introduced mysterious, hooded witches associated with Doctor Doom’s corner of the story. Some fans have speculated that the Scarlet Witch could be among them, potentially returning as an ally—or weapon—of the MCU’s newest major villain.

It is certainly an intriguing possibility. Robert Downey Jr. is returning to Marvel as Victor von Doom rather than Iron Man, and the upcoming film promises a collision between heroes from different universes. A powerful magic-user standing beside Doom could add another dangerous dimension to an already formidable threat.

However, there is no official confirmation that Olsen will appear in the film or that Wanda will serve Doom. Recent reporting on the mysterious witches has also cast doubt on some Scarlet Witch theories, while Marvel’s announced cast list does not include Olsen. The idea remains speculation, not established MCU canon.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026. Until then, Wanda’s fate remains one of Marvel’s biggest unanswered questions. Whether she returns as a hero, a villain, or something far more complicated, the Scarlet Witch still has the power to turn the MCU upside down—and fans will be watching for every last clue.
