The Multiverse Saga is rapidly approaching its absolute climax as Avengers: Doomsday prepares to assemble a massive multiversal alliance of legendary heroes, cosmic defenders, and iconic variants from across alternate timelines. Yet, amidst the intense global hype and speculation surrounding this staggering crossover lineup, one of Marvel’s most powerful nexus entities remains noticeably missing: Wanda Maximoff.

The widespread absence of the Scarlet Witch has sparked relentless debate among fans, leaving audiences wondering whether she is truly gone or if Marvel Studios is carefully keeping a blockbuster comeback under wraps to deliver a major surprise.

Ever since the sacrificial collapse of Mount Wundagore at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the fate of Wanda Maximoff has remained one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's biggest unanswered questions. Officially, Wanda is presumed dead after pulling down the temple to destroy every copy of the Darkhold. However, in classic superhero fashion, no physical body was shown on screen, and a distinct burst of red magic flashed right as the debris fell.

While Marvel’s internal guidebooks frame her actions as a final sacrifice, her ultimate survival remains unconfirmed. Despite high fan anticipation for Avengers: Doomsday, there is currently no official confirmation that Elizabeth Olsen will appear. Marvel Studios omitted Wanda from the film's initial cast roster, and Olsen herself has maintained that she has not been contacted to reprise her role

Furthering this doubt, WandaVision was notably left off Marvel’s official essential viewing lists leading up to the film. Yet there may still be light at the end of the tunnel for Wanda fans, as her absence could simply be a deliberate misdirection, especially given Doctor Doom’s deep ties to magic in the comics and the rumors surrounding Latverian lore.

Also, even if Wanda does not make her MCU return in Avengers: Doomsday, that does not mean her story is over or that a comeback is completely off the table.

Potential pathways for Wanda's MCU return

If Wanda does not have a primary role in Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel could use an end-credits sting to reveal that she is Doctor Doom’s captive or an unwitting ally, setting up a dramatic entrance for the final multiverse conflict. Alternatively, several upcoming projects offer the ideal launchpad for her comeback.  The upcoming VisionQuest series, following White Vision's quest to recover his humanity, creates a natural opening for emotional flashbacks, a narrative tie-in with Wiccan and Speed, or a post-credits reveal confirming she is alive.

Finally, as the ultimate multiversal event, Avengers: Secret Wars could adapt The Children’s Crusade storyline, position her reality-warping powers at the center of Battleworld, or introduce a formidable multiversal variant of the character.  Ultimately, whether Wanda Maximoff resurfaces as her original Earth-616 self seeking redemption or makes her entrance through a whole new timeline, hopefully her narrative presence in the MCU remains far from over.
