For years, Gypsy Rose Blanchard was presented to the world as a gravely ill child dependent on her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. Behind that image was a dark story involving fabricated illnesses, alleged medical abuse, isolation, and m*****.

In 2015, Dee Dee was found stabbed to d*****, and investigators discovered that Gypsy had helped plan the k****** with then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn. She later pleaded guilty to second-degree m***** and served more than eight years in prison. The case has since inspired documentaries, scripted dramas, and reality television.

But is any Gypsy Rose documentary streaming on Netflix?

Gypsy Rose Documentaries to check out

Netflix currently does not have a dedicated Gypsy Rose Blanchard documentary in its U.S. library, but several nonfiction titles are available elsewhere. Mommy Dead and Dearest remains a strong starting point. Directed by Erin Lee Carr, the 2017 HBO documentary reconstructs the Blanchard case through interviews, home footage, family testimony, and material from the investigation. In the U.S., it is available through HBO Max and the Max add-on on Hulu.

The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard gives Gypsy space to tell the story herself. The six-part 2024 Lifetime docuseries covers her childhood, the alleged abuse, her relationship with Godejohn, and her years incarcerated. Hulu currently carries the complete six-episode season in the U.S.

Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up begins after her December 2023 release and shifts the focus toward freedom, family, relationships, and the public attention surrounding her new life. Hulu lists two seasons and 20 episodes, while Lifetime offers the series through participating television providers.

A Friend, a M******* brings a chilling Danish case to Netflix

A Friend, a M******* is a three-part Danish documentary series that premiered on Netflix on March 5, 2026 and dominated the U.S charts. Directed by Christian Dyekjær and produced by GODT Media, the limited series examines a string of crimes that shook the rural community around Korsør, Denmark, over eight years.

The series begins with the 2016 disappearance of a 17-year-old girl, an event that triggered searches, fear, and years of unanswered questions. After several investigative dead ends, a brutal crime in 2023 finally led police to the perpetrator. The documentary centers the emotional aftermath rather than sensationalizing the crimes themselves.

Its haunting perspective comes from Amanda, Nichlas, and Kiri, three former friends who discovered during the trial that someone they trusted had carried out assaults, kidnappings, and murder while continuing to socialize with them. Their memories turn the series into an examination of friendship, fear, and the terrifying possibility that familiarity can hide something monstrous.
