Directed by James Hawes, the movie One Life tells the true story of British humanitarian Nicholas Winton. Released in the United Kingdom on 1 January 2024 by Warner Bros. Pictures and in the United States in March of the same year, the film is now available to stream online. While it is not on Netflix, it can be rented on Amazon.
It is also available on Fubo, though it will leave the platform in just 16 days, which leaves the Fubo TV viewers a limited window to watch this highly acclaimed film. Before its release, One Life premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on 9 September 2023 and had its European premiere at the 2023 London Film Festival, earning widespread praise.
For those who have yet to watch the movie, it follows the story of a young London stockbroker, Nicholas Winton, who travels to Prague in 1938 and discovers Jewish children in desperate need of rescue from Nazi-occupied territories. He organizes the evacuation of 669 children to safety in England, with the help of his mother and several others. Decades later, Winton’s extraordinary efforts are praised by the people.
The film, which is a must-watch addition to biopics, is as inspiring and motivating as the life and mindset of the man it portrays. Even after saving hundreds of lives, the late Winton lived modestly.
Sir Nicholas opened up about his experience of leading the dangerous operation
The British humanitarian, Sir Nicholas Winton, who organised the rescue of 669 children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia in 1939, never saw himself as a hero. His family shared that he focused on the future rather than seeking recognition for his actions. Winton’s story only became widely known in 1988 when the rescued children, now adults, appeared on the BBC programme That’s Life.

Despite saving several lives, he often dismissed his role, saying he would have done the same for anyone in that situation. The new film One Life, starring Sir Anthony Hopkins, brings Winton’s story to the big screen. Helena Bonham Carter and Alex Sharp joined the film to play supporting roles to put across a heart touching tale.
