Martin, Sunfyre endured similar wounds and recovered by feeding on dead soldiers and livestock while lying in a healing coma. The series may be following a similar path, suggesting that Sunfyre entered a dormant state, too injured to move but not beyond recovery.

His bond with Aegon may have also played a role, as Targaryens and their dragons share a deep psychic connection that could have helped restore him. As the Black army advances toward Tumbleton, carrying Criston Cole’s severed head on a pike, Ormund Hightower remains unfazed by the looming threat. While his subordinates Gwayne Hightower and Daeron Targaryen worry about the overwhelming force approaching, Ormund reveals his leverage.

He has captured Corlys Velaryon, the Hand of the Queen, and is using him as a bargaining chip to keep House Velaryon and Driftmark out of the conflict. In a brutal display of power, Ormund sends Corlys’ severed finger, bearing the sigil ring of House Velaryon, to Alyn Waters in King’s Landing, signaling his ruthlessness. But Ormund’s strategy goes further. He has been quietly courting Ulf the White, a resentful dragonrider from Team Black.

By appealing to Ulf’s pride and promising him the island of Driftmark, Ormund convinces him to defect. This betrayal shifts the balance of power, as Ulf’s dragon Vermithor could prove devastating against the Black forces. As the Black army closes in, Tumbleton is set to become a deciding battleground that could reshape the fate of the Dance of the Dragons.
