Homelander is one of the strongest characters in The Boys, which is understandable given that much of the series revolves around taking him down. After all, his X-ray vision and laser beams remain unmatched in the show. However, there have been a few moments when he has come close to facing his worst fears and most formidable adversaries. 

One of the most notable is his clash with Soldier Boy. While Homelander is extremely powerful, it is yet to proven wrong that his immediate predecessor might be the one to take him down once and for all. 

Homelander clearly possesses a wide range of skills and powers that allow him to take down almost anyone who goes against him. Yet Soldier Boy might be more powerful than him. This is because Russian experiments gave him an explosive ability that can depower other Supes by burning the Compound V in their system.

In a physical combat, Soldier Boy likely has an upper hand since he has shown real combat skills, while Homelander mostly relies on brute strength. Soldier Boy is also more disciplined and keeps his emotions in check, as seen when he remained unaffected even after finding out that Homelander is his biological son. Homelander, on the other hand, tends to lose control. 

However, it is important to understand that while Soldier Boy has his one dangerous ability, Homelander possesses a wide range of powers. He can fly, move at super speed, see through objects with X-ray vision, and unleash laser beams. That is why, during their fight, Soldier Boy needed the help of Butcher and Hughie.

Apart from Soldier Boy, there are a few other characters who are strong enough, if not to defeat Homelander, at least to stand up to him in a fight.

One of the strongest characters currently capable of facing Homelander is his own biological son, Ryan. He has already shown impressive laser abilities. Although he lacks the experience to truly challenge his father, he is one of the few characters who has managed to make Homelander bleed, as seen in The Boys Season 5, Episode 3. 

Another possible opponent, who has yet to appear in Season 5, is Marie Moreau. Her blood-manipulation powers make her one of the few who could potentially stand up to Homelander. Billy Butcher is also formidable, but perhaps not quite strong enough on his own to defeat him. While none of these characters individually is more powerful than Homelander, together they might stand a much better chance, and if not, bets on Soldier Boy could queue in as the only one strong enough to overtake him.
