Surviving seems to be one of the toughest challenges in the world of George R. R. Martin, a law that House of the Dragon has taken to heart, even if it means crossing the author's original boundaries. Beloved and ruthless characters alike are burned alive, betrayed, or struck down without warning. Season 3, which continues to add even more shocking names to the death toll, is no different. 

One such character in the newest season is Ser Luthor Largent, who is a fiercely loyal commander of the City Watch. He played a crucial role in securing King's Landing for Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen. However, with the Gold Cloaks facing a brutal ambush in the latest episode, Ser Luthor Largent seems to have had his fate determined. 

Unfortunately, and unexpectedly, Ser Luther Largent did not survive the ambush spreading through King's Landing. He was mercilessly k***** in House of the Dragon Season 3, Episode 5. Understandably, with the character's death, actor Tom Cullen also bid farewell to the series.

As for the k*****, their identity has yet to be revealed. The episode begins with Queen Rhaenyra ordering the Gold Cloaks to track down those responsible for spreading offensive messages mocking her. However, the Gold Cloaks resort to brutal tactics, and the situation soon spirals out of control as members of the force begin getting targeted one after another.

The threat escalates to the point where the Gold Cloaks can only operate in groups, but even that proves insufficient. Amid the growing tension, one of the most loyal commanders, Ser Luther Largent, along with several of his men, is m*******, and their bodies are put on display for everyone, including Daemon Targaryen, to witness.

As Daemon investigates the m****** and searches for those responsible, he only finds more mystery. Initially believing the attacks to be the work of a single person, he soon discovers that there might be several behind the attacks. After capturing a suspect, Daemon finds a gold coin that Ormund Hightower had given to Daeron Targaryen, raising suspicions that Daeron may somehow be connected to it.

There is still plenty of mystery left to be dissected in the next episode, but what shocked viewers the most was the death of Ser Luther Largent, especially since it is written differently in George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood.

Ser Luther Largent also dies in the books. However, what shocked fans the most was the timing of his death. In George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood, he survives much longer. He was k***** during the riots in King's Landing, when the common folk turned against Queen Rhaenyra.

Ser Luther Largent's death is a devastating blow to both Queen Rhaenyra and Daemon, to whom he remained loyal. The death is likely to cause even more chaos in the city. By moving his death much earlier in the series, House of the Dragon has altered his storyline, raising major questions about what lies ahead for the show's future.
