Several arcs of the beloved pirate anime, One Piece, were recently removed from their longtime streaming home, Hulu. However, the platform quickly stepped forward to clarify the official reason behind the sudden decision. Hulu has been home to One Piece for several years and has continued to add new arcs to its library over time, and that explains the shock.

At a time when the One Piece franchise is experiencing new heights courtesy of its Netflix live-action adaptation, the Hulu wipeout evoked shock from fans and a clarification from the streamer itself.-

While many fans were already aware, the news first surfaced on X when a viewer expressed frustration over Hulu removing several arcs of One Piece. Soon, Hulu responded to the disappointed fan, explaining that its streaming rights for some of the arcs of the anime had expired. Furthermore, the platform’s official account also assured viewers that it would likely consider fans’ interests moving ahead.

“Hulu here — sorry for any upset! Unfortunately, our rights to stream select seasons of One Piece have expired at this time. We'll let our team know you'd like to see them added back in the future! If there's anything else we can do, please let us know,” the official Hulu account wrote on X.

Meanwhile, fans can still watch or rewatch all episodes of One Piece on Crunchyroll. The platform also offers the latest episodes of the anime, allowing viewers to catch up on the Straw Hats’ adventures. Moreover, some arcs of the anime are also available to stream on Netflix and Pluto TV.

While Netflix has also added the newest episodes from the recently released Elbaph arc of One Piece, the streaming platform is also set to introduce a new remake of the anime.

Netflix's The One Piece will arrive soon

Netflix announced more than two years ago that it was working on an official remake of One Piece. Wit Studio, the studio behind popular anime series such as SPY x FAMILY and the first three seasons of Attack on Titan, teamed up with Netflix to develop the project. The CEO of the company, George Wada, had also assured fans that the remake would be a more detailed, impactful, and faithful adaptation of the original manga.

“It will combine visual enjoyment, strong storytelling, and flawless pacing," Wada said in an interview with the YouTube Channel, Ai Show.

Titled The One Piece, the anime will feature modern animation techniques while following the same story of Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew. The series is expected to move at a much faster pace than the ongoing TV anime adaptation by Toei Animation, to make the story more accessible for a new generation of viewers. Season 1 is reportedly expected to adapt the first 50 chapters of the manga and release in 2027.
