A popular journalist questioned if Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are ready to bid adieu to their royal titles for American citizenship.

Is Meghan Markle Reluctant to Share Her American Citizenship With Prince Harry?

Meghan Markle [https://netflixjunkie.com/tag/meghan-markle] and Prince Harry
[https://www.netflixjunkie.com/tag/prince-harry/] have been living life outside
the royal fishbowl for the past four years, having left their senior royal
positions behind. Even after stepping down from their royal responsibilities,
the Californian couple retained their titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
This choice stirred up a debate among royal enthusiasts, where some view the
titles as immutable, and others see them as a strategic ploy. However, since
they settled in America, discussions about Prince Harry becoming a US citizen
have been ongoing for a while now.

This, however, would mean that the Sussexes might have to toss their royal
titles out the window. But are the Sussexes ready for a step like that; one that
could potentially jeopardize their relevance in the media? And is Markle willing
to take that bet?

DOES MEGHAN MARKLE STAND BETWEEN PRINCE HARRY’S CITIZENSHIP PLANS?

Prince Harry has been soaking up the American life for years now. And the idea
of him becoming a full-fledged American citizen is not just an idle chatter
among fans. It is something that even the Duke himself brought up in a recent
chat with Good Morning America. However, journalist Lee Cohen doubts that the
Prince will ever truly follow through on his plans to obtain US citizenship.
According to OK! Magazine, Cohen bluntly stated
[https://okmagazine.com/p/meghan-markle-wont-let-prince-harry-dump-royal-title/]
that he does not think “Meghan will let him do that,” as this choice could
impact their status.

Recently, tensions flared over the Sussexes’ titles as Markle and Prince Harry
rolled out their new website. Sussex.com prominently displayed their royal
titles along with Markle’s coat of arms. Critics slammed the couple for
exploiting their royal titles in branding, which they deemed unethical. Some
even claimed that this move broke the Sussexes’ promise to the late Queen
Elizabeth
[https://www.netflixjunkie.com/hollywood-news-meghan-markle-and-prince-harrys-website-breaks-their-deal-with-the-late-queen-elizabeth/]
of not using their royal status for commercial gain. However, defenders argued
that as the titles belong to them, they have every right to use them.

As sides discussed right and wrong over the new website, Meghan Markle and
Prince Harry also issued their blunt response to the media scrutiny surrounding
the use of their royal titles.

THE SUSSEXES HIT BACK AT THE CRITICS

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are no strangers to controversies. They have been
constant subjects of scrutiny ever since they decided to unite. Their choice to
incorporate their titles into their website, along with changing their
children’s surnames to Sussex, raised many eyebrows. In response, a
representative for the Sussexes gave an interview to the Mirror, suggesting that
the criticism will have no effect on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s efforts of
“working and pursuing what they believe in“.

The representative added how”this couple will not be broken,” despite the
constant challenges and criticism. Some reports also suggested that the couple
did not consult palace officials about using their Sussex titles. Whether Meghan
Markle stands in the way of Prince Harry’s plans to pursue American citizenship
is up for debate. Nonetheless, the couple is boldly showing off their royal
titles, even years after parting ways with the royal family.
