Is 'Guardians of the Galaxy 4' Coming? Here's Everything We Know

Published 04/19/2026, 9:18 AM EDT

The Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy ranks among the MCU's most polished triumphs, turning obscure comics into a beloved powerhouse. Kicking off in 2014 with infectious 70s grooves, misfit chemistry, and Baby Groot mania, it evolved through heartfelt bonds and tear-jerking sendoff. James Gunn wrapped it neatly in three films, delivering laughs, epic stakes, and closure, while raking in billions and sidestepping franchise fatigue that plagues other heroes.

That said, with Rocket's new squad teased and fan hype unquenched, what about a Vol. 4?

Whispers of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4 have fans buzzing, but it is all rumor and speculation right now. Nothing is official from Marvel as of April 2026, with Phase 6 locked on heavy hitters like Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. Still, the galaxy-sized demand persists after Vol. 3's 2023 emotional mic drop.

James Gunn, the franchise architect, always pitched his trilogy as the original crew's finale. Star-Lord, Rocket, Groot, and the gang scattered to new horizons. He is now DC's co-CEO, publicly blessing a reboot without him: Someone fresh could nail it, he hinted in interviews. Cast chatter fuels the fire. Chris Pratt teases Star-Lord cameos, while others like Karen Gillan play coy with never say never. Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldaña have bowed out, eyeing dramatic pivots.

Enter the rumor mill's hottest bet: a new Guardians squad led by Rocket, blending vets like Groot with newbies Adam Warlock and Phyla-Vell from Vol. 3's stinger. Plot guesses swirl around cosmic cults or escaped villains, but pure fanfic for now. Box office gold, Vol. 3's near-$850M haul screams sequel potential, mirroring Thor's fourth romp. Yet Marvel's slate stays mum, eyeing 2028 or beyond. Until announcements drop, it is all thrilling guesswork.

James Gunn is deep in pre-production on Man of Tomorrow

James Gunn is deep in pre-production on Man of Tomorrow, the second chapter of DCU's Superman Saga, with cameras set to roll any day now in Atlanta, right on track for its April 2026 start. As DC Studios co-CEO, Gunn wrote and directed this non-direct sequel to 2025's Superman, pitting the Man of Steel against a new villain in a story Gunn boils down to saving the world with your sworn enemy.

David Corenswet reprises Clark Kent/Superman, Nicholas Hoult returns as Lex Luthor, shifting from foe to potential ally, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and a stacked ensemble: Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and newcomers like Adria Arjona, rumored Maxima, and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart.

Slated for a July 9, 2027, release, the film's rapid pace from script to shoot in under two years highlights Gunn's efficiency. Tied back to Guardians dreams, Gunn's jammed DCU schedule, helming this blockbuster amid oversight of Creature Commandos, Supergirl, and more, means no quick MCU return. A Guardians Vol. 4 under him looks off the table anytime soon.
