As per Saudi Gazette, the answer is yes. During a recent stay in Saudi Arabia, Giancarlo Esposito reportedly recited the Shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith, and joined members of a production team in prayer at a mosque. The news was shared by Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority Chairman Turki Al-Sheikh, who stated that the actor embraced Islam while working in the Kingdom on the major film production Seven Dogs. Reports also noted that a video circulating on social media showed Esposito praying alongside crew members inside a mosque.

The decision reportedly came after months of interaction with Muslim colleagues and positive experiences during filming in Saudi Arabia, according to Saudi Gazette. Al-Sheikh said the actor expressed admiration for the hospitality, community spirit, and warmth he encountered while working there. Esposito was in the country filming Seven Dogs, one of the most ambitious productions tied to Saudi Arabia's growing entertainment industry and its effort to attract international filmmaking talent.

Yet the story becomes even more interesting when viewed as part of a longer spiritual journey. The seeds of this transformation appear to have been planted long before Saudi Arabia entered the picture.

Morocco is where the inspiration began

Giancarlo Esposito is visiting Casablanca, Morocco, for the premiere of Seven Dogs at the Pathé Californie cinema. Joined by co-star Monica Bellucci and directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the actor spoke openly about the impact the country and its people had on him during an interview with Radio Abraham. His comments revealed a man who had been reflecting on spirituality for some time.

"Well it deepens me to come to a country where people have devotion, for me devotion is everything, to be devoted and understand that there is one God, one Allah. You know in your country Mohammad is everything, for me it's the same. I feel the same way in a country that has a devotion to goodness, and God energy so it changed my life," he expressed.
