A24 has confirmed that Elden Ring will be adapted into a movie. In 2026, the studio, along with Bandai Namco Entertainment, revealed plans for a theatrical release, with the film set to premiere on March 3, 2028. The movie will be shot in IMAX and is already under production in the UK.

What makes the adaptation especially exciting is the game’s origin, as George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, co-wrote its backstory. The game itself is an open-world dark fantasy where players take on the role of a Tarnished, seeking to restore the shattered relic, Elden Ring, and become the Elden Lord. As of now, the movie has a confirmed cast and director.

Kit Connor and Ben Whishaw are part of the project, which is helmed by Alex Garland, as revealed by A24. Garland is well known for films such as Ex Machina and Annihilation. The rest of the cast includes Cailee Spaeny, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Tom Burke, Jonathan Pryce, Nick Offerman, Ruby Cruz, John Hodgkinson, Emma Laird, Jefferson Hall, and Peter Serafinowicz.

One leaked image reportedly shows Emma Laird as Queen Marika walking through Leyndell. She is the one who shattered the Elden Ring, and although players never directly meet her in the game, this image suggests the movie could explore events that take place before the game’s timeline.
