'Invincible' Season 4, Episode 6 Recap: Between War and Redemption, Does Invincible Rise Again?

Published 04/08/2026, 2:05 AM CDT

Last week’s episode of Invincible was downright gut-wrenching, so much so that I, for one, cannot look at spaghetti the same way ever again. Nolan is officially in his redemption arc, Mark now has his very identity as Invincible under a massive question mark after the way Conquest handled him, and Oliver is left grappling with where he truly belongs: torn between the father he idolized and the reality he is now forced to face. The team, Nolan and his sons, along with Tech Jacket, Telia, and Allen, was torn apart when Conquest attacked, leaving nothing but uncertainty in its wake.

The creators promised more gore and violence in Season 4, and they have absolutely delivered. But while the galaxy gears up for an all-out clash, the show quietly leans into something far more uncomfortable: accountability. Fathers trying (and failing) to be better, sons questioning everything, and relationships hanging by threads thinner than Mark’s current condition. Because, sure, the war is here—but the real damage? That’s always been personal.

While leaders deliver their grand speeches, the war begins exactly where they feared it would.

Thaedus and Thragg: Two leaders and one inevitable war

The episode opens with Thaedus addressing members of the Coalition of Planets, declaring that they have never been more determined or ready for war, while Viltrum has never been weaker—hiding behind its armies. On the other side, Thragg addresses the Viltrumites, insisting that while the Coalition may believe it is strong, it will shatter in front of Viltrumite devotion and vengeance.

The sequence cuts between Thaedus and Thragg—two leaders, two ideologies. Thaedus, the traitor Viltrumite, seeks to end the atrocities his kind has inflicted, while Thragg dismisses the Coalition entirely, even mocking the Scourge Virus created from Thaedus’ genetic code, something that could finally wipe out Viltrumites for good (honestly, for good).

Thaedus reveals that the Viltrumites’ weakness has been rediscovered, as the King Lizards extract blood from the Sinlak Beetle, a species once nearly wiped out by Nolan, with the remaining ones now preserved by the Coalition. This weakness, Thaedus claims, will be used against the tyrants to break their hold on the galaxy.

Meanwhile, Thragg prepares his forces under Anissa, sending them out to conquer more planets, as the Coalition also mobilises for a direct attack on Viltrum. Thaedus acknowledges that the war will bring suffering and sacrifice, but no more than what the Viltrumites inflict every moment they exist.

'Invincible' Season 4, Episode 5 Recap: Nolan Seeks Forgiveness and the Viltrumite War Finally Sets in Motion

“If we remain unified against their empire of bane, we will prevail,” says Thaedus.“All is ours,” Thragg reminds his people. And just like that, the war begins.

Survival, guilt, and a broken Invincible

Thragg, meanwhile, reflects with disappointment, calling the Coalition nothing more than animals who have risen against the very empire that brought order to chaos, as he speaks to the skull of Argall, the former emperor of Viltrum, promising to restore stability.

Cut to Nolan, stacking rocks—three of them—on the enemy planet where Mark had his intestines pulled out. Oliver walks in and immediately calls Nolan’s actions bullshit. Nolan insists that even someone like Conquest, devoted to Viltrum, deserves a funeral. Oliver, of course—and rightly so—disagrees. After all, Conquest killed Mark twice (seriously, is Mark going to make it after that assault?) and caused unimaginable destruction on Earth. To Oliver, Conquest is as hated on Earth as Nolan himself.

The focus shifts to Mark, still barely holding on, his intestines literally tied together with cloth. Nolan believes he will recover, but Oliver is not having it: he wants real doctors, real help. Nolan argues that they are deep inside Viltrumite territory, and moving Mark would be far too risky. He asks for patience. Months, he says.

That is where Oliver snaps. He did not leave Earth and his mother just to be stuck on a random planet like this. He points out that it has never been this bad, not even during Mark’s first fight with Conquest, and admits what really bothers him: he wishes he were truly Invincible.

Meanwhile, survival continues in the harshest ways possible. Nolan fights and kills a space bug that acts as their dinner. Oliver refuses to eat it at first, while still feeding Mark a strange green liquid just to keep him alive. Three weeks pass. Nolan insists Oliver needs to eat or he will die too, but Oliver shuts down.

Training begins, whether Oliver likes it or not. Nolan tries to prepare him for war, but Oliver, very much in his teenage “I know everything” phase (despite almost dying against Conquest), attacks Nolan and fails to land a single hit. Nolan effortlessly dodges every move, humbling him instantly. Then comes the real fight, which was everything personal.

Oliver reveals he overheard Nolan telling Debbie that his mother was a mistake. He asks the question that’s been eating at him: was he a mistake too? Nolan tries to explain, but Oliver spirals further—he idolised Omni-Man, even wore his symbol, only to realise Nolan never really saw him. Nolan admits he hasn’t been a good father but is trying to be better.

For Oliver, though, it might already be too late.

Escapes, alliances, and the war expand

Elsewhere, Lucan and Kragg receive orders from General Kregg, Viltrum has been attacked, and the Coalition must be crushed. Their failure to locate Nolan and his sons is noted, but can wait. Hidden inside their ship, Allen and Tech Jacket, who is now Zoey, post the gender swap, see an opportunity. If the ship is heading toward the Coalition, this is its escape. Yes, they could get brutally killed if caught, but not if they time it right.

When they finally escape, Lucan and Kragg notice immediately. Allen speeds ahead, but Tech Jacket cannot keep up. Thinking quickly, Allen throws her forward to boost her speed (teamwork, but make it chaotic). He fights Lucan while Kragg chases Zoey. It looks like the end for Allen, until Zoey returns with Space Racer. And suddenly, the fight is over.

Space Racer’s weapon does not just defeat Kragg, it obliterates half his body and destroys their ship in seconds. Even Lucan, completely stunned, chooses survival over pride and retreats. Safe to say, the Coalition finally has something that can genuinely scare Viltrumites.

Back on Talescria, Allen reunites with Telia (cue emotional hug), and they meet Thaedus. Plans are discussed, concerns are raised—and one major development is revealed: Battle Beast is alive and now on their side, and he craves only one thing: war.

What follows in the upcoming sequences is nothing but all good signs: Nolan and Oliver have bonded well over their training, Mark is healing, and the planets in the galaxy are getting free of the Viltrum empire for good, which, of course, is getting onto Thragg’s nerves. And before anyone questions Mark’s name as Invincible, he lives up to it yet again by waking up and donning a beard.

Talescria attacked and the war reaches its breaking point

As the Coalition debates its losses and questions how much more their people can endure, Thaedus stands firm: this is the only way forward. And then, everything falls apart. A Viltrumite attack hits Talescria, made possible by someone sabotaging the defence system from within. Kregg, Lucan, Anissa and others storm the planet, unleashing complete chaos.

Allen takes on Lucan (again), Zoey faces Anissa, and Thaedus goes head-to-head with Kregg. The battle is brutal, fast, and devastating. And just when things seem lost, Nolan, Mark, and Oliver arrive.

Mark, still weak but very much alive (yes, he really said “I’m built different” and survived that), joins Oliver in destroying the Viltrumite ship mid-air. Thragg is forced to retreat as his forces begin to crumble.

As debris from the destroyed ship threatens to crush everything below, everyone works together to stop it, a rare moment that reminds us this war will only be won together. In the aftermath, betrayal is uncovered. One of the Data Twins confesses to secretly aiding the Viltrumites for years, believing they would ultimately win. His revelation changes everything: Thragg is calling all Viltrumites back home. And just like that, the endgame is clear.

But Thaedus is not one to give up. With the new intel in his hand, he proposes a direct strike on Viltrum itself, making it the beginning of the final push.

In the post-credits, we come back to Conquest’s grave, a dramatic tempo building, making you think he will be alive again. But that cuts out, with a zoom out, the tempo stopping and wind passing by, normally giving away that this time he is dead for real, and Cecil might have answers to give when Mark returns to Earth for saving him earlier.

If this episode proves anything, is that Invincible is done playing in the grey; it is all-out war now. Mark may be back on his feet (barely), Nolan may be trying to be better (finally), and Oliver may still be figuring out where he belongs, but none of that pauses the war waiting outside. With Thragg calling his forces home and the Coalition ready to strike back, the question is not if things will get worse; it is how much worse they can get. And knowing Invincible, we probably have not seen the worst of it yet.
