'Invincible' Season 4 Episodes 1-3 Recap: Mark's Morality Shakes as The Amazon Series Becomes Bigger Than Ever

Published 03/18/2026, 2:06 AM CDT

Just over a year since season 3, Invincible Season 4 is finally here with a bang on Amazon Prime. It is rather rare for shows to have regular seasons released in consecutive years, so much so that it feels like a blessing. And this latest season starts right where season 3 left off, i.e., in the middle of a world recovering from the “not so great for them” Invincible War.

Invincible Season 4 promises a story that will shift from a hero on Earth to a story about the universe finding hope in him. As Mark Grayson battles his inner demons and comes to terms with the responsibilities on his shoulders, we witness the world around him change drastically. But true to his name, he manages to be: INVINCIBLE, or does he?

Episode 1: Making the World a Better Place

True to the episode's name, the season starts right in the middle of a rebuilding phase of the world as they recover from the atrocities the Multiverse Marks caused, thanks to Angstrom Levy’s evil plans and Conquest’s battle with Mark and Eve. Not only the world, but we also see Mark recovering. While he helps The Guardians of the Globe, Teen Team, and other heroes to battle the many villains that have surfaced with this opening, we see his limbs wrapped in plasters.

Cut to his home, we see Oliver and Debbie for the first time. Now a grown-up teenager, thanks to Thraxan’s short lifespan, Oliver showcases almost all the traits of a regular teen boy who is going through his rebellious phase. He refuses to help Mark fight a nearby villain, saying someone else will do it because he has been working throughout the day. Debbie tries to explain to Mark that even he needs some time off, and we see for the first time what he is truly going through. Because almost all the attackers have his face, the world views Mark with fear and disgust, making it all the more important that he save them from any trouble that may come their way.

And then comes the most-awaited return of the show, the title card! Of course, featuring the titular character’s name. But this time, instead of blood splashing over it, we see the white, hazy background slowly fade after each episode, revealing the stars and space behind it, confirming this is not just a story about Earth anymore; the fight is going universal.

Next, we see the Teen Team at the GDA headquarters, where Cecil offers them their positions on the Guardians of the Globe in an attempt to strengthen them. The entire Teen Team refuses to join at first, reminding Cecil of how he treated Mark in season 3. They join only when Cecil assures them that no such incident will recur, and, of course, they get a big paycheck. Rex/Rudy demands to be made the captain of the team, in place of Brit, but Cecil quickly denies, as he has already broken his trust once.

We then cut to a fight between Mark and a Dinosaur Man, where the latter yells at Mark for trying to save humans. He believes that what Mark (his alternate versions) did on Earth was good, as it controlled the population and gave Earth a chance to recover, but he is now ruining it by saving them. After a brutal fight, Mark sheds his protective limbs, revealing he has healed, and thrashes the Dinosaur Man. Mark almost kills him before the Guardians show up at the scene and take the villain into their custody, leaving Mark struggling to come to terms with this new, uncontrollable rage he has inside him.

We then see Mark and Eve together at her home, debating the morality of running Invincible Inc., their company, where they provide security for money. Eve reveals that all the money they make always goes to charity, and they are only charging big corporations, not people. It turns out that this hangout at Eve’s home is actually to meet her parents at dinner, and Mark and Eve are, of course, a little tense about it. The dinner conversations take weird turns as Eve’s father is clearly rather hostile towards his daughter’s boyfriend. He takes Mark out to the garden for a talk, where he reveals that he is just looking out for his daughter, Eve.

He blames everything bad happening to Eve on Mark, going even further and telling him that the two times she came close to death, it was because of Mark. While inside the house, we see Eve’s mom supporting her relationship with Mark, saying she has finally found someone special, while also hinting that her own husband might just be an adjustment she makes at this point. After the parents leave for TV, Mark opens up to Eve about the Dinosaur Man incident and how he still struggles with his instinct to kill people for good. Eve also reveals that her powers have been glitching, showing us that even the most powerful have their own powerful problems.

We then see a brief scene where the Sequids from Mars are attacking people in the sewer and making an entire album under the city. Revealing “it’s time”, as they soon start attacking people above the ground. Elsewhere, a mysterious woman appears with a staff in her hand and starts draining electricity from houses and neighbourhoods.

We then get a scene at the Grayson household, where Mark apologizes to Oliver for being rude to him earlier. The brothers have their breakfast as it is revealed that Debbie is quite seriously dating Paul, and Paul has been staying over at their place for quite some time. Paul, of course, is a little weird around the children as he steps downstairs. But the brothers insist that it is alright, Oliver jokes about Debbie, and Paul makes just as much noise as Mark and Eve, and it is alright. And right then, Eve walks in, informing about the mysterious woman who has now started attacking the power plant. Oliver expresses his desire to join them at the job, but is quickly reminded of some plan he already has by Debbie.

It is revealed that the mysterious woman with the staff is an alien and requires the energy to save her people. Mark and Eve fight her, but she does overpower them rather easily as Eve’s powers keep glitching throughout the fight. It is only after she somehow drops her staff and Eve manages to land a brutal punch to knock her out, revealing her powers work only when she has her staff.

We then see the plan Oliver and Debbie were talking about, which was to get Oliver his new costume from Art Rosenbaum. Art reveals the new costume for him, and it features Omni Man’s symbol yet again, as Oliver refuses to give it up. He says that it may have been his father’s, but he has worked enough to earn it as his own. Debbie reminisces about the first time she came here to get his suit for Nolan, and he refuses to dress like a clown before she explains how it makes him more trustworthy to common people. Debbie agrees to Olivier’s desire to have the same symbol, as he is old enough to pick his battles and his costume.

Somewhere else in a city, the Guardians are deployed to fight the Sequid breakout. GDA has developed a tech where a dome can be used to contain them, and the Guardians have to manually rip Sequids from the heads of people with a hypersonic bracelet and use teleporting darts to get people out of there. While it initially works amazingly, the sheer number of foes soon overpowers them in the dome. Thus requiring assistance from Invincible Inc.

After a brief cut to Debbie and Paul’s office, where he apologizes for the morning's behaviour, and he suggests they should move in together, to which Debbie agrees.

Cecil reaches out to Mark and Eve and asks for their help, but Eve tells him that her powers are not working. With a frustrated sigh, Cecil asks Mark to go alone and help, while Eve is taken back to her home. Upon arriving at the dome, Mark is told that there are no bracelets and darts that can be given to him, so he has to find one of the Guardians every time he catches an infected.

We see Robot clash with Brit over what needs to be done, as the former finds traces of life in the underground tunnels and wants to go investigate it, while the latter refuses to allow him to do the same. We see Rex anyway go down the drain with Monster Girl covering for him, and just as he feared, Rex finds multiple infected in the sewers. A group of Sequid-controlled humans almost take him out, but he somehow manages to save all of them and himself by teleporting back to the base.

Towards the end of the episode, Guardians and Mark round up and save almost everyone with the single infected remaining Astronaut Rus, who is the patient zero of this whole debacle, and he brought the Sequids back on earth. With only a few seconds remaining before the Dome finally collapses and the Sequids take over the world, Mark gives up waiting for Bulletproof’s help and makes the hard choice to kill Rus, ending the episode on a shocker, leaving us conflicted about whether what Mark did was right or wrong.

Episode 2: I'll Give You the Grand Tour

While Episode 1 was a story told on Earth, Episode 2 quickly transports us to the grand planet of Viltrum. We see a mysterious space debris fall onto the planet and release a green gas. The scene quickly shifts to what seems to be a school of sorts, where a young man is teaching kids about the history of the empire. Via the kids, we learn that there is only one Viltrumite whose statue is allowed to be made, which is Emperor Argall, who was the first person to unite the Viltrumites and give them the dream to lay claim & control the entire universe.

We also learn the story of how he died when The Betrayer assassinated Argall, which pushed the planet of Viltrum into a purge. The teacher ends the class for the day by declaring that there will be a fight tomorrow and only the strongest among them will survive. And just after the children leave, we see an older couple fly to the arena and start attacking the teacher, yelling that it is the day of adulthood for him as they beat up the young man. While the man fights valiantly, he doesn't really manage to defeat the two, and it is soon revealed that he is, in fact, their son, and this is Viltrum's way of becoming an adult. While the man stops and appreciates his son’s fight, the woman looks down upon them both and leaves them.

The young man then joins the fellow cadets of the Viltrum Empire and is given his uniform and missions, only for one of his fellow cadets to start bleeding through the mouth and eyes and die in front of their eyes. And we soon find out this is happening throughout the planet. It is quickly established that the mysterious asteroid at the beginning of the episode contained a deadly virus that only attacks Viltrumites. Their king orders them to contain it as much as possible and kill every non-Viltrumite life on the planet so the news of their weakness cannot be spread through the galaxies. We see billions and billions of dead bodies being dumped into space, which form a Jupiter-like ring around the planet of Viltrum.

As the story ends, we find out that the young teacher was actually Nolan, and he was narrating the whole thing to Alan. He also reveals that the true mission ‌on Earth was not just to conquer them, but also to breed with them, because humans are very closely compatible with Viltrumites, which was proved when Mark became almost as strong as him. Alan quietly sneaks Nolan into his planet as well as his home, where they meet his girlfriend Telia, who right away jumps the gun and attacks Nolan at the first sight of his moustache, only stopping after Alan reveals that he is on their side.

Alan manages to get Nolan to meet Thaedus, who leads the Coalition of Planets against the Viltrumites. Nolan reveals to him that only 50 pure Viltrumites remain as of today. Thaedus also reveals that he is The Betrayer who killed Argall, thinking that without their leader, the Viltrumites will stop their atrocities, but that didn’t happen. Alan reveals that Nolan has access to the knowledge of some weaknesses of Viltrumites and has agreed to help them find them, for his friendship with Alan. But he will only help them find these weaknesses and will not join them in this war against his own people.

Soon, Nolan, Alan, and Telia board the worst ship on their planet, Venture, to avoid any suspicions and collect all the weaknesses that Nolan talks about. The ship is very clearly in the worst state possible, and it is also commanded by a captain who fails to give any sense of comfort and reliability. And the wait for reaching the first destination births the hilarious gag that continues throughout the episode, where Nolan has to “sleep” on the couch and listen to Alan and Telia have rather noisy coitus.

They first arrive at the site where Nolan buried the Space Racer alive, hoping that it had been 100 years since the incident, he would have died of natural causes, and his connection to the Infinity Ray. But they're soon proven wrong as the Racer is still alive and starts attacking them, stopping only after Alan tells him about their mission and asks him to help them. Initially refusing, the Space Racer agrees to help after he sees Nolan, a Viltrumite, apologize to him.

Next, the duo lands on a planet where the Sinlak beetles, whose shells have a compound that is poisonous to Viltrumites, carry a few of them back to their base, where scientists can extract, refine, and use that poison to make darts that can be used to fight against the Viltrumites. They also visit the planet of the Gelderians, who are a race of highly intelligent beings who once posed a threat to the Viltrumites, which is why Nolan moved their entire planet closer to the sun, evaporating all of their water. The Gelderians reveal that they are still recovering from the wounds of the past, but there is a hero on Earth who can join their fight called Tech Jacket, who we last saw take out a version of Mark along during the Invincible War.

The last planet they go to is home to one of the Viltrumites’ deadliest foes, the Ragnars. They are cold-blooded beasts that have become insanely strong because of the powerful gravity of their planet. And since they are cold-blooded, Nolan had the scientist place a solar disc that stops the sunlight from hitting the planet, thus freezing them. As Nolan and Alan go down the planet, they ask the captain to move the sun disc a little so they can carry a few Ragnars with them, but he destroys the disc instead, leaving the duo stranded and almost certainly dead.

It is only after Telia takes over the ship and places it between the sun and the planet that the Ragnars start freezing again, and they can leave the planet. With the hope that once they freeze again, a fw can be captured to aid their fight against the Viltrumites.

We have a rather beautiful moment next, where Nolan ponders why he is helping the resistance to Alan. He says that the Viltrumites also helped many planets and saved them from wars, but Alan quickly tells him that this is what all conquerors tell themselves. He tells Nolan that they could have gotten the hint with the Scourge Virus, but they only double down on atrocities after it, and thus, they need to be defeated. And Alan hugs a rather rattled Nolan.

The trio returns to their base and reports to Thaedus about everything before leaving, but Thaedus asks Nolan to stay back and to talk to him. Thaedus pleads with Nolan to join the fight alongside Mark and defeat the Viltrumites for good. Nolan refuses to go to Earth because of the shame he has for the deeds he committed in the past. Thaedus reveals his own murky past to Nolan as he takes him to a secret lab and reveals that he is the one who created the Scourge Virus and now has an even better version of it, which will kill every Viltrumite if exposed.

Nolan is rattled by this revelation and jumps to kill Thaedus and ask why he did that, why he made billions of Viltrumites suffer. To which Thaedus replies that what they did to almost everyone in the universe. Nolan gets relatively calm at this back and forth and makes him promise that this virus will be the last thing they use and only if everything else fails against the Viltrumites.

Episode 3: I Gotta Get Some Air

Episode 3 starts with ghosts from the past reappearing as we see Machine Head and Titan meet at a bar. Where the former informs him that Mr. Liu, the dragon that almost killed Mark and him, is still alive and after them. Machine Head reveals that he doesn't have to worry since he is part of The Order and has their protection, and insists Machine Head should also join them, but he refuses.

We then move to the GDA, where Cecil and Donald are visibly worries at how Mark has been acting of late, where he is not hesitating to pull the trigger and kill someone if necessary. Cecil believes that this is just like Omni Man, and it needs to stop. We also see Rex and Brit lock horns again about not following orders, and the Guardians debate whether what Mark did was right or wrong. Bulletproof defends Invincible and says he did what was necessary before the team disperses to their rooms. We see Rex vomit out a sequid, and it attacks him, but Amanda, aka Monster Girl, saves him.

We see Mark struggle with the fact that he has killed a person, and he tries to talk to Eve about it, not realizing that she herself has her own struggles with her powers glitching. Elsewhere, we see Paul suggest to Debbie that they should sell both their houses and move into a new, bigger house together with the boys.

Following that, we see Titan out with his wife and daughter walking in a park while his security keeps a close eye on the movements around them. His wife tells him why he got her the ice-cream, and it will be difficult to get her to sleep, only for his daughter to answer with, Ï will sleep when I am dead.” Not going to lie, it left me speechless. We see Titan’s security taken out one by one with sharp metal-like objects slashing them into pieces, which is later revealed to be Magnattack.

Titan takes the fight right to him after sending his family running to a safe place. We see Magnattack try to attack Titan multiple times, but he keeps smashing him. It is then that we see Magnattack try to send one of his metal pieces to his family in an attempt to kill them, but Machine Head’s assistant, Isotope, saves them. And this little attack ends up being the death sentence for Magnattack as Titan beats him into a lifeless pile of bones and blood.

We get a brief scene where Debbie looks at the house her kids grew up in, as Oliver walks into the room. They both talk about Mark being either sad or angry all the time, but Debbie explains that they can’t fight change.

We next see Donald getting Mark to meet with Cecil and talk about the Rus incident. While Cecil agrees that what he did was right, he tells Mark that these kinds of decisions take a toll on heroes. Which is why he is the one who makes them and not the Guardians, so that they can sleep at night. He insists that these decisions change you as a person, and even though Mark doesn't work for him, he would like to chime in on decisions of life and death, if not make them for him.

In a different part of the facility, we see D. A. Sinclair working on his ReAnimen, but Donald asks him to quickly disappear as Mark is in the building. But instead of doing that, we see Sinclair walk up to Mark directly and try to apologize to him, but he quickly dismisses the insane scientist as he tries to keep his calm and not kill him. Cecil appreciates Mark controlling his rage, only to see Mark go flying out. Donald asks Cecil if he told Mark about Conquest yet, and how he is still alive. Which is answered by the most hilarious thing we have gotten from Cecil: “Donald, if you want my job so bad, just ask for it.”

The scene then cuts to Mark confessing to Eve about how he killed Rus, and Eve confessing about her powers going from glitching to not working at all. The duo tries to mitigate their struggles when they get a call for an Invincible Inc job, and since they both don’t want to do it, Oliver jumps in to help. But as he shows up at the job, it is revealed that Titan is the one who called for help to trick Invincible into fighting with him against Mr. Liu.

Elsewhere, Eve asks Rex for help in trying to find a solution for her powers vanishing out of nowhere. While Rex struggles to find a reason for it, he promises he will find a solution for her.

What follows all this is the biggest event of the premiere episodes of Invincible Season 4, the Invasion of Flaxans. There are the same aliens who tried to attack Earth back in season 1, but were taken care of by Omni-Man back then. But this time around, since time passes rather quickly for the Flaxans, they have come in with great advancements in tech, which have made them even more threatening than before. The Flaxans start enslaving people and take them prisoner as they carry full ships back into their world.

In a different place, Oliver has finally convinced Titan that he can fight just as well as Invincible. Oliver asks if they have to kill anyone on this job, because if they have to, he can't be doing it. Titan reveals that no killing will take place.

We next see the Guardians flying to the place where Flaxans are invading Earth again, as Cecil tells them they have made 3 invasions in the last few days. And since time moves faster for them, they have had months of learning from it. Compared to previous times, when they wore wearable devices that emitted a protective temporal field around them, they now use a single powerful emitter, which is harder to disrupt. Cecil reveals that he has gotten Mark to help them as well.

Even with a Viltrumite on their side, the Guardians have a difficult time against the Flaxans because of the great technology they have developed. The Flaxans have created giant robots specifically designed to take down Omni-Man if needed, and these can also take down Invincible.

The fight then shifts from aliens to mythical creatures as Titan and Oliver face off against Mr. Liu and his bodyguard, The Great Wall. Liu lets out the dragon from within his body and starts attacking Oliver while The Great Wall battles Titan on the ground.

Back at the Guardians’ end, we see Rex realising that the big emitter might be hidden behind the portal in the Flaxan’s world and decides to go destroy it alongside Monster Girl. While the other Guardians cover for them, the duo goes through the portal and takes the fight to Flaxan’s home turf, where Rex destroys the big emitter.

But he soon realises that the only way to defeat the Flaxans it to destroy them for good in their own world, while Cecil stops the Guardians from going into the portal, the team refuses to follow orders and charges in any way. However, it is all in vain as one of the Flaxan soldiers closes the portal with his gun, leaving Rex and Amanda stranded on an alien dimension alone.

With the emitter gone, Mark is finally free of the fight and flies off to help Oliver against the dragon. When asked why he didn't run away from the dragon, Oliver replies that he didn't want Mark and Eve’s names to get ruined because of him. And the two brothers beat the dragon to a pulp, only for Mr. Liu and The Great Wall to run away.

What follows is a true crash-out as Mark starts throwing wild punches on Titan, saying he should never mess with his family again, as Titan replies in a weak voice that he was just trying to save his own family. Oliver is visibly taken aback by the sheer brutality Mark displays and yells at him to stop. The brothers leave the site with an almost-dead Titan lying on the ground.

We see Debbie nurse Oliver’s wounds while Paul tries to jump in with dad jokes, only to be left out of words. While Mark and Eve talk about the wild things that happened, Eve tells Mark that Rex had no answer to her problems, but he will soon. Eve expresses her shock at the fact that Amanda and Rex are no longer here, while Mark confesses that he almost killed someone again, cementing the main theme for this season, which is Mark coming to terms with his approach to justice and whether he wants to be like a human or a Viltrumite.

The episode ends with a criminal meeting of The Order where Machine Head introduces the newest member to the rest of them, Titan. He right away clarifies that he is only becoming a member to ensure the safety of his family, but is cut short by another criminal joining the order, Mr. Liu. Isotope teleports behind Machine Head, revealing that both Titan and Mr. Liu were both played by Machine Head into joining The Order so that business can return to its usual state.
