Keri Russell has teased Matthew Rhys about being insufferable at home after his history-making Emmy wins. The 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards turned the Welsh actor into a walking record book overnight. Awards season usually leaves winners glowing for days, which tests the patience of anyone sharing a roof with them. Russell, no stranger to the spotlight herself, delivered her answer with perfect comic timing when the question finally arrived.
While Rhys collected trophies on stage, a very different judge was waiting at home, and the verdict needed just one word.

Yes, Keri Russell confirms that Matthew Rhys has been insufferable at home since his Emmy wins, and she needed no time to think about it. The children had placed bets on which parent would win, and Sam Rhys asked for a school pickup once the news landed. Matthew Rhys' sister even flew in from Wales to join them at the awards.
“Has he been insufferable at home ever since?” the Entertainment Tonight host asked, giving Russell the perfect opening.
Russell’s answer came instantly, “Yes, obviously.”

Entertainment Tonight spoke with both stars after Matthew Rhys collected two lead acting trophies in one night, a first for any man. One honor came in the limited or anthology category, the other in comedy for playing Tom Loftis in Widow's Bay. Added to his 2018 win for The Americans, he now holds lead Emmys in all three genres. The show won 14 awards, topping The Studio's 13 wins from last year.
While Widow's Bay filled a trophy shelf, the longest-running hit in Matthew Rhys' life started on a spy set.
Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell relationship timeline from The Americans to Widow's Bay
The story starts at a 2002 kickball game, where Matthew Rhys asked for Keri Russell's number after several drinks and never heard back. Russell forgot about it until they were cast as KGB spies Elizabeth and Philip Jennings in The Americans in 2012. She had separated from her husband, Shane Dearey, by early 2013, and the pair were spotted around Brooklyn. People confirmed the romance in April 2014 after a Public Theater outing.

Their son Sam Rhys arrived in May 2016, with The Americans hiding the pregnancy behind winter coats and salad bowls. Matthew Rhys speaks only Welsh to the boy, while Russell has made it clear that a public proposal would earn him a firm no. Two Emmy nominees under one roof, Matthew Rhys says, bring a competitive edge that the children love. Insufferable or not, Matthew Russell and Rhys clearly still enjoy the teasing.
