Tom Rhys Harries will soon step into the role of the iconic DC Comics villain Matt Hagen, also known as Clayface. Over the last few years, the actor has transitioned from supporting roles in ensembles, like Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen, to being the lead in a major studio franchise. Although Harries has become a familiar face across high-profile streaming shows and prestige films, he has yet to become a household name. But he may not be far off.

His mainstream Hollywood stardom is currently on the line over the next few weeks as Clayface is scheduled to hit theatres soon.

Tom Rhys Harries’ popularity began within the UK entertainment industry and theater crowds. He made his West End debut in 2014 in the play, Mojo, starring alongside actors like Rupert Grint and Ben Whishaw. But it was not until May 2020 that he achieved mainstream recognition with the release of the Netflix series White Lines.

Then came the Doctor Who episode Dot and Bubble in June 2024 which made him a massive trending topic on social media platforms like X and TikTok.

In 2025, came a major turning point when he was cast as Matt Hagen/Clayface. He was officially introduced to the DC fanbase at San Diego Comic-Con alongside director James Watkins. The official final trailer has just been released and Harries is already the talk of the town.

The upcoming DC offering is being billed as the first-ever R-rated body-horror thriller for the studio.

The story follows Matt Hagen, a young Gotham street kid who manages to escape his difficult beginnings and become one of Hollywood’s rising leading men. Everything changes when a local crime boss attacks him and leaves him horribly disfigured.

Matt has lost his team. His career is falling apart. And he is desperate enough to try an experimental cosmetic compound. At first, it seems like a miracle. The treatment restores his handsome appearance.

But there is a horrifying catch. It begins destroying his grip on reality and mutating his biology. Soon, his flesh becomes as malleable as living clay, giving him the ability to shape-shift. The transformation comes at a terrible cost.

It leads Matt to spiral into a grotesque, stomach-churning quest for revenge against everyone who wronged him.
