There is something especially satisfying about watching Inde Navarrette’s career reach the moment that once seemed just out of frame. From 13 Reasons Why to Superman & Lois, she steadily built the kind of screen presence that made even supporting appearances linger. Now, after Obsession turned her into one of horror’s most talked-about performers, Marvel has cast her in X-Men, while the Critics Choice Association is adding another major milestone to the story.
The interesting part is that Navarrette’s rise has not followed the usual Hollywood straight line. It has been more like one of those horror movies where the background detail suddenly becomes the thing you cannot stop watching.

As Nikki Freeman, Navarette moves from familiar romantic-comedy territory into something increasingly unsettling, while still allowing the frightened, vulnerable person underneath to remain visible. Variety praised the performance for making Nikki simultaneously frightening and sympathetic, comparing its emotional ambition to acclaimed horror turns such as Lupita Nyong’o in Us and Toni Collette in Hereditary. Navarrette has already won Best Actress in a Horror Movie at the Critics Choice Super Awards and the Golden Space Needle Award for Best Performance at the Seattle International Film Festival.
And now the career arc is getting considerably bigger.
From Obsession’s nightmare to Marvel’s Rogue
Marvel has already confirmed Inde Navarrette as Rogue in its upcoming X-Men reboot, scheduled for May 2028. The casting was announced at D23, alongside major additions including Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier, Maya Boyd as Storm and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey. There is also a particularly intriguing bridge between that announcement and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Jeff Sneider has reported on The Hot Mic that Navarrette’s Rogue is expected to appear in Secret Wars. That remains a report rather than an official Marvel confirmation, but the possibility makes narrative sense. Secret Wars is designed as a multiversal crossroads, and introducing Rogue there could give Marvel a tantalizing first glimpse of the mutant generation before the X-Men reboot arrives in 2028.
Navarrette’s Critics Choice honor therefore arrives at an unusually perfect moment. Obsession proved she could command a film, while Rogue could establish her as a major franchise performer. The fascinating question now is how far this particular career mutation can go.
