Inde Navarrette is taking inspiration from Taylor Swift for her debut on Saturday Night Live. The live sketch-comedy and variety show is returning for its 52nd season this September with another star-studded lineup. As for the Obsession actress, she will join the crew for some chaos in their Halloween episode.

Now, whether Navarrette brings some of Nikki’s energy to the SNL stage remains to be seen, but the actress seems to have found the right person to seek inspiration for her debut. Praising the “Ophelia” singer, Navarrette revealed how Swift’s unique performance on SNL has influenced the way she is approaching her debut and shared some of her plans for the show.

Inde Navarrette recently attended the Toronto International Film Festival, where she joined ET’s Cassie DiLaura for an interview. When asked about her upcoming SNL debut, the actress shared that she has been working on some sketch ideas. She also did not forget to mention Taylor Swift, who famously wrote her own monologue when she made her SNL debut in 2009.

“I am writing down sketch ideas cuz it I've been watching SNL since I was a little girl. I really want to do her justice. I heard that Taylor Swift whenever she did it, she wrote her own monologue. So I really really really want to like come in with myself and my own ideas,” she said.

Clearly, as the actress revealed during the interview, Navarrette, who managed to show true horror with her performance as Nikki in Obsession, plans to go all out for her SNL debut. She will be joined by singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams for the episode. There will be plenty of other debuts on the show this season as well. 

Jalen Brunson, who recently took New York by storm after bringing an NBA championship to the city for the first time in more than five decades, will feature in the show's opener. KATSEYE will also make its debut on the show. With Dakota Johnson and Rosalía also joining the lineup, this season will be packed with celebrity appearances.

As for Navarrette’s performance, there should be little reason to worry, especially since she is taking inspiration from the right person. Swift’s SNL performance and monologue have been praised even after a decade.

Taylor Swift made her Saturday Night Live debut as the host in 2009. For the episode, she wrote her own monologue song, 'Monologue Song (La La La)'. And Seth Meyers, who was part of the show at the time, later recalled during his appearance on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show that he was impressed by the song Swift had written. 

"It really speaks to what a force of nature she is and the depths of her talent," Meyers said. "Here's a 19-year-old who nobody is really helping out; nobody gave her a manual of how to do that show.

The singer was just 19 at the time and did not shy away from the chatter surrounding her, including her breakup with Joe Jonas and other headlines. Meyers recalled that Swift had little guidance on how to write the song for the show and even admitted that her monologue was better than what the staff had originally planned. That could be a good sign for Inde Navarrette, too, if she plans to write her own SNL material.
