‘In Her Shadow’: Release Date, Plot and All the Chilling Details of Letitia Wright’s Supernatural Horror
Letitia Wright has come a long way from being the quick-witted genius behind Wakanda’s technological marvels to becoming one of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces. Her breakout performance as Shuri in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther earned her widespread acclaim and a Screen Actors Guild Award. She later took center stage in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, carrying the franchise forward with a deeply emotional portrayal of a grieving princess finding her feet as a leader.
Now, Wright is ready to trade Wakanda’s vibranium for something considerably more sinister, taking a supernatural horror turn with In Her Shadow.
When is In Her Shadow releasing?
There is no release date for In Her Shadow just yet, so audiences will have to keep their horror appetites in check for a little longer. As reported by Deadline, the project was announced on November 6, 2026, and remains in pre-production, with international distribution rights currently being shopped at the American Film Market. Behind the camera is British filmmaker Rowan Athale, who has also penned the screenplay.
The production brings together Ed Barratt and Richard Wylie of Public Pictures and Mark Lane of Tea Shop Films, the team associated with Talk to Me and Obsession. Letitia Wright is also executive producing through her banner, 3:16 Productions, alongside Bankside Films executives Stephen Kelliher and Sophie Green. As for the story, the supernatural shadows are only getting darker.
What is In Her Shadow about?
A celebrated author is about to discover that some family secrets are better left buried. As per Deadline, In Her Shadow follows Annie Cutter, whose life takes an unsettling turn after police inform her of her estranged sister’s death. The shocking discovery that follows is even harder to stomach: her young niece has spent five years locked alone in a pitch-black basement.
Unable to leave the traumatized child behind, Annie takes her niece in, hoping to give her a fresh start. However, strange occurrences soon make her question why her sister kept the little girl hidden for so long. What initially looks like an act of cruelty begins to reveal something far more terrifying, setting the stage for Letitia Wright’s chilling new role.
Who is in In Her Shadow?
Letitia Wright is currently the only confirmed name attached to In Her Shadow, with the actress stepping into the shoes of Annie Cutter, a celebrated author drawn into a disturbing family mystery. No supporting cast members have been announced yet, leaving the actors playing her young niece, deceased sister and the police officers firmly under wraps.
While supernatural horror marks new territory for Wright as a leading lady, just like Hunter Schafer, her previous work suggests she is hardly a stranger to darker material. In The Silent Twins, she portrayed June Gibbons in a haunting story of isolation, while her Emmy-nominated turn in Black Mirror’s Black Museum demonstrated her flair for macabre storytelling. Now, In Her Shadow gives her a chance to bring those unsettling strengths into full-fledged supernatural horror.
