Nicolas Cage went from Emmy glory to a potential Amazon goodbye, and AI may be the final straw. The actor had quite the run as Ben Reilly in Spider-Noir, which debuted in May 2026 on MGM+ and Prime Video, earning a 92% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and 11 Primetime Emmy nominations, including five wins. However, the black-and-white glory proved short-lived when the series was cancelled after one season.

Although Spider-Noir did act as a one-season series, its cancellation and Cage’s opposition to Amazon’s use of AI have added a new layer to the story. The actor has now suggested he may never work with the company again.

Nicolas Cage's dislike towards Amazon's alliance with AI

Nicolas Cage may have found his next role in Hollywood’s growing AI standoff, and Amazon could be losing a star. Speaking on the Empire Stage at New York Comic Con, the actor revealed that he had refused to sign an AI waiver for Spider-Noir and was “probably not” working with the studio again.

“I am not an AI-friendly actor, so it’s like, connect those dots! I’m not a member of their club," he declared.

Cage’s stance is hardly a sudden plot twist, either. The Oscar winner has repeatedly criticised artificial intelligence as “inhumane,” “disturbing” and a “nightmare,” arguing that machines cannot reproduce the emotional authenticity essential to acting. His latest remarks therefore fit neatly into a long-standing opposition to technology encroaching on the human side of filmmaking.

Rather than dwell on a possible Amazon farewell, Cage also expressed enthusiasm for the next generation of filmmakers, singling out Kane Parsons, the YouTube creator behind A24 horror hit Backrooms, the very film that dethroned Marty Supreme as A24’s highest-grossing release. For Cage, the future of cinema may lie with emerging creative voices rather than studios embracing AI.

Nicolas Cage, who does not even regret turning down the role of Green Goblin, seems equally firm in his stance on the Spider-Noir AI waiver, making the terms of the agreement worth a closer look.

The Spider-Noir AI waiver

Nicolas Cage may have drawn the line at Amazon, but the Spider-Noir AI waiver deserves a closer look. The agreement would have allowed the studio to use artificial intelligence to replicate or alter aspects of his performance and likeness. For an actor already wary of Hollywood handing his digital identity to machines, signing away that control was clearly a risk he was unwilling to take.

Cage has previously voiced fears that studios could use digital scans to recreate actors long after their deaths, leaving performers with little say over their own likenesses. His concern goes beyond one Spider-Noir contract: it touches on who controls an actor’s image once it exists digitally. With Amazon’s AI ambitions in the spotlight, the waiver becomes more than paperwork; it represents the very future Cage fears.
