James Gunn’s savage roast directed at fans has now gained immense traction on the internet and has become its new favorite meme. DC under James Gunn has really taken on a daring slate of titles that have such vastly different tonal ranges that it is hard to imagine them coming together in the same universe. DC Studios is deliberately assigning distinct genres - ranging from bright optimism to R-rated horror - to each individual project rather than forcing them into a single homogenized style.

So, it is natural that fans would be concerned about how this all comes together if their obvious path is a Justice League movie.

But when fans pointed this out, Gunn came up with a reply that shut them up for good.

James Gunn is popular for his open communication on social media with fans. Recently, he took to Threads to clarify the rumors regarding the DCU project being on hold due to the Paramount-Warner Bros. merger. But he set the record straight once and for all, saying that there is nothing on hold and everything is going as planned. 

But that was just about the rumors. Now, the DC top official has taken to his Threads account to clap back at trolls who are pointing out the vast tonal differences in DC’s current slate of titles. One user on the platform dared to argue about the continuity of the comics and how that will not work for the movies.

“I'm imagining you're not a DC comics reader, but if you choose to become one (we'd love to have you), you can pick any year of comic titles, and you can find the same amount of tonal variety across them," is what Gunn hit them with.

While he refuted the claims that the titles were from different continuities of DC comics in his Threads reply, he questioned his knowledge of the comic lore and the fact that DC titles always had that kind of tonal variety no matter which year we talk about. This argument, for the internet, was not just a testament to his trust in the current slate of titles but also new meme material that they can now use.

James Gunn is actively trying to build the hype around the DCU back up after the misfire that was Supergirl through Man of Tomorrow.

Just a couple of weeks ago, there were reports that James Gunn is devoting 18 hours a day to the upcoming Superman movie Man of Tomorrow. And the director himself constantly tries to provide regular updates on the project. Just yesterday, on August 26, he announced on Threads that the principal photography of the film is wrapped up.

Apart from that, he has been very vocal recently about the rave reviews DC’s new show Lanterns has got. Critics are hailing it as one of the finest works that DC has ever produced, and Gunn is not shying away from spreading the word. At least two of the main superheroes of Justice League are established properly. Now, all eyes are on Man of Tomorrow and The Brave & the Bold, which will be the introduction to DC’s new Batman.
