Inde Navarrette is already going all in on Rogue for Marvel’s upcoming X-Men, promising to do everything possible to honor the iconic mutant. The casting comes after her breakout turn in Obsession and a rapid rise that has put her on Marvel’s radar. With Jake Schreier directing the new X-Men, Navarrette now has a major superhero role to make her own.

For an actress who has spent much of 2026 proving that she can stretch far beyond her earlier television work, Rogue is a particularly juicy next move. Navarrette is not treating the role like another credit on a growing résumé. She is approaching it like a character she has been waiting to meet.

Inde Navarrette is studying Rogue from every angle

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Inde Navarrette made it clear that she is taking the responsibility of playing Anna Marie in X-Men’s upcoming movie seriously.

“I’m doing everything humanly possible because I love that character," Navarette exclaimed.

"I’ve studied that character. I want to do it justice for myself, for Jake, for what they want to portray and also for what I as a fan want her to be like. I’m doing everything, exclamation point,” she said.

That preparation matters because Rogue is not simply another superpowered member of the X-Men. Marvel describes Anna Marie as a mutant who can temporarily absorb other people’s powers and memories, a gift that has repeatedly made physical contact dangerous.

Inde Navarrette’s casting as Rogue was unveiled at Disney’s D23 event in August, where Marvel confirmed the new ensemble for its X-Men film. She joins Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Maya Boyd as Storm and Christopher Abbott as Professor X, with Adam Driver also starring as Mister Sinister.

The film is currently scheduled for May 2028, giving Navarrette considerable runway to continue preparing the way she told LA Times that she has been.

That intensity makes sense when you look at where Navarrette is in her career right now. Her Obsession breakout put her on a much bigger radar, but Rogue takes that momentum into an entirely different arena, one where comic-book history and fan expectations arrive with the role. For Navarrette, the preparation is already part of the performance.

Inde Navarrette’s Obsession breakout makes Rogue an intriguing next chapter

There is a neat bit of genre symmetry to the jump. Inde Navarrette went from playing Nikki Freeman in Obsession, a young woman whose behavior spirals under the supernatural influence of the One Wish Willow, to playing a mutant whose abilities can make intimacy itself dangerous. Her Obsession performance was strong enough to earn her the Critics Choice Super Award for Best Actress in a Horror Movie.

That breakout has also opened the door to a much bigger career stretch. Navarrette recently received a Cosmopolitan France spotlight, while her upcoming slate includes the lead role in Invertigo and The Waffle House Index. She has also spoken about eventually writing and directing her own films, but for now, Rogue gives her the kind of franchise role that can define the next phase of her career.

With Marvel giving Rogue a fresh place in the MCU, Navarrette has plenty of time to decide what makes her version tick. If her determination is any indication, she plans to arrive in 2028 having done considerably more than simply learn the lines.
