Jessica Lange has dropped a shocking hint about retiring soon. The actress has been in the industry for nearly five decades. Throughout her career, she has starred in several notable films, including Frances, Country, Sweet Dreams, Cape Fear, Rob Roy, and many more.

She has also been honored with two Oscars, three Primetime Emmy Awards, five Golden Globe Awards, a Tony Award, and several other accolades for her performances. After a celebrated career, the actress now seems to be close to embracing the idea of retirement, as she has dropped an unexpected hint about stepping away from the industry.

Jessica Lange hints at retirement

Jessica Lange recently joined Rolling Stone for a conversation and shared that she might retire soon. She further shocked fans by revealing that her role as Mary Tyrone in the film adaptation of Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night could be the perfect final performance before she steps away from acting. While the actress added that she is still open to potential roles in future projects, she explained that several projects do not seem to be moving forward with production.

“I actually feel like I’m coming to an end,” she said.

“It doesn’t seem easy to get things made anymore. I mean, at least not the kind of films that interest me,” she further added.

The actress recently returned to Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story, reprising four of her previous roles. It is quite clear that she has not given up hope of finding some interesting projects in the future. However, it all comes down to whether she receives an eye-catching offer for a film or series that could push back her plans to retire. During the interview, she recalled having an extraordinary run in Hollywood, having worked with legendary actors and directors.

“And the actors I was working with! Dustin [Hoffman] and Kim [Stanley] and Jack [Nicholson]. We got to throw [Martin] Scorsese in there, too. It was an extraordinary run," she said.

Now, Lange is not the only one who has hinted at the lack of interesting roles.

Patrick Stewart’s heartbreaking confession about career

The legendary actor Patrick Stewart passed away on October 28, 2026, following his brief battle with Alzheimer's disease and Lewy body dementia. Just months before his passing, he made a heartbreaking revelation about his career. In an interview with TV Insider in July 2026, the actor claimed that there were not many roles available for actors of his age.

"As any actor my age will tell you, there are fewer and fewer available roles as we get older," he said.

However, he did not let that discourage him, as the actor added that he had no plans to retire from acting. He continued to take on roles that intrigued him and even return in Avengers: Doomsday to reprise his role. While he left us too early, the actor has contributed immensely to cinema, leaving behind a legacy of films for fans to look back on.
