Chuck Lorre has a fond memory of making amends with Charlie Sheen years after their feud. The two notable names in the entertainment world had a successful run working together on Two and a Half Men, which became one of the biggest sitcoms on television. However, their feud attracted just as much attention, with Sheen publicly calling out the producer and director.

This continued until the two finally buried their bitter feelings and reunited for another show. Years later, Lorre recalled what ultimately led him to reach out to the actor and offer him the role.

Chuck Lorre reveals how time healed issues in his friendship with Charlie Sheen

Chuck Lorre sat down for a conversation on Dinner’s On Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson and spoke about his career. He also addressed his past issues with Charlie Sheen and their eventual reunion on the show Bookie. The director explained that years after their fallout, he was no longer angry or hurt by what had happened between them, which ultimately led him to reach out to the actor. The director decided to approach Sheen and offer him the role of the celebrity gambler in the show.

"It had been several years; inexplicably healing had occurred. I woke up one day and realized that the rage and anger and hurt that I had felt for a long time was just gone," he said.

"I called my partner on that project, Nick Bakay, and said, 'I know who should play the celebrity gambler. It's Charlie' It was built for Charlie. And he said, 'Can you do this?' And I went, 'If he's sober.' Yeah. And I called him."

He recalled calling an agent who helped him get in touch with the actor. As Lorre shared on Dinner’s On Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Sheen happily accepted the role but had a few conditions, such as leaving the substance abuse part out. On the show, Bookie, he played an exaggerated version of himself. And with Lorre getting to direct the episode, this was the first time the two came together for a collaboration after their public rift.

Now, before Lorre’s call, Sheen had also tried to fix things by publicly asking to make amends with the director.

Charlie Sheen’s message for Chuck Lorre

Charlie Sheen took to his X account in 2013 to address his issues with Chuck Lorre, asking to end their feud, but things did not work out between the two. This came after Sheen had publicly called Lorre “stupid” and a “clown” in 2011 amid his struggles with substance abuse. Later that March, CBS and Warner Bros. officially fired Sheen from the show.

Sheen had even filed a $100 million wrongful termination lawsuit against both the director and Warner Bros. Television. Meanwhile, Lorre used his end-of-episode vanity cards to often reference their fallout. Finally, after several years, Sheen was sober and opened up about his regrets over how he handled the situation. The two made amends, leading to another collaboration in Bookie.
