“If Daniel Didn’t Exist….” Casino Royale Director Talks About Henry Cavill Audition for the Movie Back in 2003

Ever since Daniel Craig stepped down as Mr.007, numerous rumors about the role have been making the rounds. From casting speculations to script revelations, the next James Bond film has been a hot topic of contention. Over the years, a number of Hollywood stars have been in the race to become the next 007. However, none has had the support and love like Henry Cavill. The British star has been the leading choice to play the part. While we are yet to know which actor will play the next Bond, Cavill had almost bagged the role years ago.

It was back in 2003 when Daniel Craig took over as Mr.007 with the movie Casino Royale. Craig beat a number of actors, including the Man Of Steel star, to land the role. Surprising as it sounds, even back in 2003, Cavill was a close contender for the part. And recently, director Martin Campbell made a shocking revelation about the James Bond race eighteen years ago. In an interview with Express.Co UK, the director revealed that the Enola Holmes star’s audition was tremendous. Furthermore, the Casino Royal director added, “His acting was tremendous. And look, if Daniel didn’t exist, Henry would have made an excellent Bond.

Campbell also added that the British actor was in great physical shape and looked terrific before further calling him very handsome and very chiseled. However, the only criterion the actor missed out on was age. Back in 2003, the former Man Of Steel star was just 20 years old and looked a little too young for the role.

The director continued that there were nearly 8 actors who had made it to the last round of the casting. Back then, rumors were that Campbell was in Henry’s favor to play the next 007. Dismissing the rumors as baseless, the director clarified that he was not favoring any actor and it was a complex process to choose an actor for James Bond. Elsewhere, Campbell also shed some light on whether could play the role now.

Can Henry Cavill still become the next 007?

We are no strangers to the fact that the audience is rooting for Cavill to become the next 007. While the new age requirements might not favor the actor for the role, Campbell gave us some interesting insight into whether Cavill could still play Mr 007 in future films.

The director revealed that the creators sign actors for at least two to three Bond films. And since Cavill is 40, he is going to reach 50 by the time he does his third Bond film. Furthermore, he added how the actor is in great shape and only lost out previously because he was too young. Not long ago, rumors of Cavill starring in a different role in the 007 movie also surfaced online. As of late, all the rumors are up in the air and fans will have to wait till we finally see a new Bond.
