Idris Elba vomited on Nicholas Galitzine while filming Masters of the Universe
In a hilarious and embarrassing behind-the-scenes reveal from Masters of the Universe, Idris Elba went full method for his first scene as Duncan, Man-at-Arms, accidentally vomiting all over co-star Nicholas Galitzine's shoes. Director Travis Knight confirmed during a Screen Rant cast and crew interview.
"That was the first scene Idris shot. Talk about a humiliating scene," while Galitzine added, "He went method for that and like puked all over my shoes," Galitzine said.
The film, hitting theaters June 5, 2026, stars Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man, leading Amazon, MGM, and Mattel's adaptation of the iconic 1980s franchise. Elba's Duncan is a crucial mentor figure who guides Prince Adam through the Royal Palace during Skeletor's attack.
The star-studded cast includes other heroes, too, with Camila Mendes as Teela, Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, and Jared Leto as the villainous Skeletor, with James Purefoy and Charlotte Riley playing King Randor and Queen Marlena. Elba's commitment to his role apparently involved such intense physical preparation that real vomiting occurred on set, making the scene even more authentic and memorable for everyone involved.
Even as the cast laughs off the chaos, the spotlight quickly shifts to how they are handling the pressure beyond the set.
Camilla Mendes reveals her challenges
While the on-set incident grabbed attention, Camila Mendes has been dealing with a different kind of challenge. The actress revealed that she actively checks social media reactions to her casting as Teela, using it as a way to mentally prepare for criticism. She described developing an "internal clapback" as a coping mechanism rather than engaging publicly with negativity.
"“Also, so I can have my internal clapback if there is any criticism.” Mendes told Hindustan Times.

Mendes acknowledged that reactions to her casting and appearance began circulating as soon as the first visuals were released. Instead of avoiding the noise, she prefers to stay informed about audience sentiment. For her, understanding the conversation helps in processing feedback while staying grounded in her performance.
The updated version of Teela brings more emotional depth and humor to the character, moving beyond the limitations of the original portrayal. Mendes emphasized that the film explores Teela’s early connection with Prince Adam, giving audiences a richer origin story. Despite monitoring online discourse, she remains firm in letting her work speak for itself rather than responding directly to critics.
