Hollywood’s tongue-in-cheek awards ceremony, Razzies, just crowned the legendary rapper with its most auspiciously hilarious set of awards. Preceding its progenitor, the Academy Awards, this satirical awards show brings humor to the tense Oscars race every year. And this time, in a surprising twist, none other than Ice Cube took home the biggest of the big Golden Raspberry Awards, also known as the Razzies. 

In a war of the worst, the 46th Razzie Awards recognized the rapper-turned-actor's sci-fi flick as its leading winner of multiple dubious awards, which made it one of the most dissected movies of 2026.

The movie, War of the Worlds, earned the infamous Worst Picture award, which made it the least-favored film among Razzie voters for all 2025 movies. But the criticism did not stop there at all. Ice Cube received Worst Actor honors while director Rich Lee won the Razzie award for Worst Director. The screenplay received Worst Screenplay honors, adding another crown to Kenny Golde and Marc Hyman's shelves, who wrote it.

The remake tried to update H. G. Wells' original alien invasion story, but critics rejected the entire project. The film won its fifth Razzie award for Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel. The reviews criticized the movie's heavy product placement and disorganized storytelling. The critics declared the film to be one of the year's worst productions, evident in an initial score of 0% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Meanwhile, Ice Cube competed against The Weeknd, nominated for Hurry Up Tomorrow, Dave Bautista nominated for In the Lost Lands, Scott Eastwood for Alarum, and Jared Leto for Tron: Ares for the worst actor award at the 46th Razzies. Rebel Wilson, on the other hand, took home the worst actress award for Bride Hard, while Sylvester Stallone's daughter, Scarlet Rose Stallone, was honored with Worst Supporting Actress in Gunslingers.

War of the Worlds competed with and was right on par with Rachel Zegler's highly controversial movie Snow White. While the sci-fi movie might not earn any award the production could dream of, the Razzies maintain their tradition of humorous entertainment by bestowing five of their biggest awards to the film.

The Golden Raspberry Foundation members conduct their annual ceremony, which intentionally satirizes the Oscars while displaying the entertainment industry's most significant failures. And War of the Worlds has now earned its place as one of the most notorious flops in Hollywood history, but perhaps for several reasons. One of them being its behind the scenes.

 What exactly went behind the production scenes of the Prime Video sci-fi flop?

War of the Worlds stars Ice Cube, Eva Longoria, Clark Gregg, Andrea Savage, Henry Hunter Hall, Iman Benson, Devon Bostick, and Michael O'Neill. Despite its stellar cast, the film had to wrap production in 15 days due to health protocols, as it was shot during the peak of the COVID pandemic.

“[War of the Worlds] was a movie I did in 2020 during the pandemic. We shot it in 15 days, and it was during the pandemic. So the director wasn’t in there. None of the actors was in there. This was the only way we could really shoot the movie," the rapper had revealed in an interview with Kai Cenat. 

Additionally, a five-year delay lagged the release of the film because originally Universal had shot the film, and rights went to Prime Video later on when Amazon purchased it. Acquiring the entire footage of the film, outside the rapper's own, definitely was not smooth-sailing, further adding to the delay, the Razzie-winner claimed.

As the Oscars encroach like a roaring battle of the best, Prime Video proudly presents arguably the worst movie of the year, adding a light-hearted twist to the intense atmospheric pressure in Hollywood ahead of March 16, 2026.
