For months, Marvel fans have been busy casting the MCU’s next generation of mutants long before the studio has revealed them. Few names have gained as much momentum as Wagner Moura, with the Oscar-nominated actor repeatedly surfacing as the internet’s dream choice for the iconic X-Men villain Mister Sinister. Now, the actor has thrown even more fuel onto the speculation by admitting he’d “love it” if Marvel ever came calling.
While the internet may have already cast Marvel’s next great villain, only Marvel can decide whether that dream fan-casting will ever become reality.
Wagner Moura finally weighs in on the Marvel rumors
Speaking exclusively to ScreenRant while promoting The Last House, Wagner Moura addressed the swirling Mister Sinister rumors surrounding Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot. While the actor revealed that fans regularly send him speculation, he confirmed Marvel has never reached out about the role. That said, Moura made one thing crystal clear: having grown up reading Marvel comics, he’d love to join the MCU if the opportunity ever came.
"Dude, I've been reading these things on the internet, and people are sending that to me. I mean, I'm a fan of that whole entire universe, especially when I was a kid reading all those graphic novels and everything. But there's nothing. No one contacted me about it. It's just something that people read. But on the internet, I don't know nothing honestly about it. I would love it." Moura told ScreenRant.

Moura’s comment to ScreenRant arrives as Marvel Studios quietly lays the groundwork for its long-awaited mutant era. Following Avengers: Secret Wars, the studio is expected to fully reboot the X-Men after years of introducing legacy characters from Fox’s original franchise throughout the Multiverse Saga.
Among the biggest names fans are waiting to see is Mister Sinister, the genetically obsessed mastermind who has never received a live-action debut despite being one of the X-Men’s most iconic villains. Scheduled for release on July 28, 2028, the reboot will be directed by Jake Schreier from a screenplay by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo.
Whether the MCU comes calling or not, Wagner Moura is already having the biggest year of his career.
From Oscar buzz to Netflix’s biggest sci-fi thriller
Fresh off earning widespread acclaim for The Secret Agent, Wagner Moura has now returned to the spotlight with Netflix’s ambitious sci-fi thriller The Last House, which premiered on August 7. The film pairs Moura with Greta Lee as parents Jason and Ann Delgado, whose ordinary lives are shattered after their family mysteriously becomes trapped inside their own home. As the years pass and their surroundings begin transforming into something increasingly surreal, the family is forced into a desperate fight for survival against an unknown force.

Directed by Louis Leterrier, The Last House blends psychological horror with high-concept science fiction, featuring a supporting cast that includes Riley Chung, Noah Alexander Sosnowski, Emma Ho, and Gabriel Barbosa as the Delgado children across different stages of their lives. Even before its release, the film generated significant buzz for its ambitious production design, including a massive aquarium-like set built for the story’s later chapters, with Moura and the cast undergoing extensive underwater training.
With The Last House now streaming and Marvel fans rallying behind him for Mister Sinister, 2026 is quickly becoming one of the actor’s defining years.
Do you think Wagner Moura has what it takes to become the MCU’s Mister Sinister, or is there another actor you had rather see step into the iconic villain’s shoes? Let us know in the comments.
