With so many Batman renditions that we got over the years, Matt Reeves was set up for a daunting task with The Batman to offer something new about the world of the Caped Crusader. But the director delivered on the expectations and presented the Gotham hero in a light never seen before. But after The Batman in 2022, Reeves went radio silent on the sequel for a couple of years, only to come back with an update on the final draft of the script in late June 2025. Since then, there has been a steady flow of information on the development of the project from the cast and crew, particularly Andy Serkis.

Andy Serkis is busy with the promotions of his latest release, Animal Farm, and with that, he has also been giving out some details about The Batman Part II, especially the script.

In a sitting with Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused Podcast, Andy Serkis opened up about his upcoming projects. Those included the animated adaptation of Animal Farm, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, and The Batman Part II. While talking about The Batman sequel by Matt Reeves, the host asked his opinion on Robert Pattinson’s description of the script being deeper and darker than ever, and Serkis more than staunchly agreed.

“I would concur with all of those,” Serkis said in response when asked what adjectives he would use to describe the script as opposed to Robert Pattinson.

Interestingly, director Matt Reeves, along with actors like Robert Pattinson and Andy Serkis, have all raved about the script for The Batman Part II in their previous interviews. They all mention one thing often: that the script raises the stakes for Batman tenfold this time, giving the hero a breakthrough to have a character arc that has never been seen before.
