Will Reeve has grown from a familiar name in sports media into a recognizable ABC News correspondent, with Good Morning America becoming a major part of his broadcasting career. He has covered everything from sports to human-interest stories while also carrying the complicated legacy of being Christopher and Dana Reeve’s son.

Over the years, Reeve has increasingly used that personal history as part of the way he connects with audiences. For a journalist who is usually the one asking the questions, this time the story begins with his own answer. Reeve has now opened up about a private health battle that took him from the Good Morning America desk to a hospital room, sharing the experience in the hope that speaking about it could help someone else.

The Good Morning America anchor revealed that he was diagnosed with t********* cancer earlier this year, a health battle that eventually involved surgery and chemotherapy. He has completed treatment and was declared cancer-free following a September 8 check-up. Reeve explained why he decided to make the diagnosis public.

“I was raised to share one’s struggles if, in doing so, that might help others,” he told PEOPLE.

PEOPLE reported that the 34-year-old underwent surgery in May before facing further treatment and chemotherapy, finishing his final round on July 31. The decision to speak publicly was closely tied to the example set by his parents, Christopher and Dana Reeve, whose lives after Christopher Reeve's 1995 horseback-riding accident became inseparable from advocacy and caregiving.

Christopher Reeve died in 2004, while Dana Reeve died from lung cancer in 2006. Reeve later revisited their family story with his siblings Matthew and Alexandra in the 2024 documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story.

For Reeve, the diagnosis also created an unexpected bridge between the life he inherited from his parents and the life he has built for himself. The connection runs even deeper because he was treated at Memorial Sloan Kettering, where his mother received treatment for lung cancer.

Will Reeve has spent years building a broadcasting career that extends well beyond the Reeve family name. ABC News lists him as a New York-based correspondent across Good Morning America, World News Tonight, Nightline, ABC News Live and ABC News Radio. Before joining ABC in 2018, he worked at ESPN, appearing across SportsCenter, College GameDay and ESPN Radio, while also anchoring the MSG Hockey Show.

That career has increasingly brought him into stories that intersect with his own history. In 2025, ABC News followed Reeve as he retraced his father’s final expedition for Will Reeve: Finding My Father, revisiting locations from Christopher Reeve’s pre-accident nature documentary about gray whales. Earlier in 2026, Reeve also married Amanda Dubin, incorporating personal tributes to his parents into the wedding, including his father’s cufflinks and a brooch that belonged to his mother.
