Tenzing revisits one of mountaineering history's most celebrated achievements through the perspective of Sherpa climber Tenzing Norgay and New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary. Tom Hiddleston portrays Hillary opposite Genden Phuntsok as Tenzing in Jennifer Peedom's Apple Original film, which explores the relationship between the two men during their historic 1953 Everest expedition.

The production placed considerable emphasis on cultural authenticity and the human connections surrounding the climb. For Hiddleston, that responsibility extended beyond research and physical preparation.

Before filming, he sought a personal connection with Hillary's family to understand the man behind the legend.

Tom Hiddleston wanted Edmund Hillary's family to trust him

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast while promoting the upcoming film, Tom Hiddleston described his meaningful encounter with Edmund Hillary's grandson, Alexander, in Kathmandu.

"Alexander Edmund's grandson happened to be in Kathmandu so I met him on the evening that I landed and it was so extraordinary to shake his hand and sit with him for an hour or two in a way and also reassure him that I was committed to this with total sincerity that I was aware of the enormous privilege of playing his grandfather and you know was there anything he wanted me to know," Hiddleston said.

Hiddleston further revealed in the podcast that Alexander's response profoundly shaped his understanding of the character he would embody.

"And actually that his response was just how much he loved this part of the world and that actually towards the end of his life, the things he was most proud of were his connections to the people of those mountains. It wasn't necessarily the summit, although he loved climbing very deeply," the actor explained.

This insight shifted Hiddleston's focus from the achievement of reaching Everest's peak to the relationships and cultural connections that defined Hillary's legacy. The film, which premieres at TIFF before its October 9 theatrical release and October 16 Apple TV+ streaming debut, aims to reframe the narrative around Tenzing Norgay's contributions while honoring both climbers' humanity.

“I Will Find Myself Revealing Things”- Tom Hiddleston Teases a Major Loki Secret in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Hiddleston's other major 2026 project carries an entirely different kind of legacy.

Could Loki's next chapter be just as personal?

From the summit of Everest to the far reaches of the multiverse, the actor's next chapter couldn't be more different. The actor is confirmed to return as Loki in Avengers: Doomsday, although Marvel has kept the character's precise role under wraps. His appearance connects directly to the conclusion of Loki Season 2, where the character became the God of Stories and took responsibility for maintaining the multiverse.

Iman Vellani, who plays Kamala Khan in the MCU, recently offered her own theory about Loki's importance in Doomsday. Speaking on a podcast with YouTuber Frank Alvarez, she argued that Loki's transformation gives him a natural connection to the upcoming multiversal conflict. Vellani stressed that her comments were speculation rather than inside information.

Hiddleston has also remained careful about revealing details concerning Loki's future. For now, Marvel has provided little information about how the God of Stories will intersect with Doctor Doom or the wider Avengers storyline.
