Sarah Jessica Parker recently revealed that she never wears any of her archived S** and the City outfits. It may seem surprising given how much the show’s fashion influenced pop culture. Created by Patricia Field, Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe helped bring high fashion into the mainstream.
The show also changed the way people viewed fashion on television and influenced shopping trends around the world. Yet despite being so closely associated with Carrie, Parker has her own reasons for keeping those iconic looks tucked away.
Sarah Jessica Parker prefers to keep Carrie Bradshaw’s style separate from her own.

Sarah Jessica Parker left Carrie Bradshaw’s fashion behind
Sarah Jessica Parker stopped by for a chat with PEOPLE on the red carpet at the New York City Ballet’s 2026 Fall Gala. She revealed that she does not wear any of the clothes she kept from S** and the City. The actress explained that she is quite different from the character she portrayed on the show, and that separation extends to her personal style as well.
"No, I don’t wear any of the wardrobe that I wore on the show ever. I have it. It’s an archive, but I never wear it. I never have," she revealed.
"There’s a huge separation between myself and Carrie Bradshaw. So it would be like walking around in Sarah Sanderson’s costume. It doesn’t seem applicable to my life,” Parker explained.

Parker also mentioned to PEOPLE that there are not many unique pieces left from the show that fans have not already seen her wear. She does not reach for those clothes because she has already worn them on screen. And considering how closely those outfits are tied to Carrie Bradshaw, Parker does not seem interested in bringing that same style into her own wardrobe.
After all, the show, which even inspired music, completely broke away from traditional fashion rules.
Carrie’s wardrobe was more than just a collection of costumes. Her clothes reflected her mood, relationships, and evolving life, making fashion an important part of her story. The approach became so influential that it sparked major retail trends around the world.
Understanding Carrie Bradshaw's fashion
Carrie Bradshaw made mixing luxury with the everyday look effortless. And this was years before “high-low” fashion even became a norm. Her wardrobe could place a designer piece alongside something picked up for next to nothing. Her iconic white tutu from the opening credits, for instance, reportedly came from a $5 bargain bin in Midtown Manhattan before Patricia Field paired it with a simple tank top.

The formula was simple: combining thrifted vintage finds with coveted pieces. Carrie Bradshaw never believed an outfit had to play by the rules. She paired clashing prints with bold colors, mixed textures without hesitation, and piled on accessories with little concern for whether they matched. From oversized flower brooches to structured coats over bare midriffs, her wardrobe was proof that fashion did not always need to make sense to look spectacular.
