For a royal household usually associated with formal engagements and carefully managed public appearances, a shared obsession with reality television makes for a surprisingly relatable revelation.

Prince William lets slip the Royal household’s reality TV guilty pleasure

Prince William made a surprise appearance on The Graham Norton Show, where he opened up about his love for The Traitors and his family’s enthusiasm for the reality competition. During the conversation, he explained that the show has become a favorite with his two youngest children, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The appearance (via Variety) offers an unusual glimpse into the Prince of Wales’ life away from royal responsibilities. Recorded on Thursday and scheduled to air in the United Kingdom on Friday, the episode features the British royal sharing the famous red sofa with Cate Blanchett, Hannah Waddingham and conservationist Robert Irwin. The guests are connected to the Earthshot Prize, the environmental initiative spearheaded by the Heir Apparent.

Yet, amid the conversation surrounding his public work, his admission about watching The Traitors with his children offered a more personal detail.

But reality television is only one part of Prince William’s screen-time preferences. His taste in films also points toward stories that combine spectacle with ideas worth thinking about.

Prince William prefers Christopher Nolan’s darker worlds

Prince William revealed that music and film help him switch off, explaining that he enjoys getting immersed in movies that encourage deeper thought. Although he appreciates action films, he is particularly drawn to director Christopher Nolan, whose work often combines large-scale spectacle with psychological tension and intricate storytelling.

“I’m a big fan of everything Christopher Nolan does,” Prince William told Graham Norton.

He singled out The Dark Knight trilogy as an example of Nolan’s distinctive approach, describing the films as “psychologically dark and deep.” The Batman movies, particularly their exploration of morality, fear and the consequences of power, offer more than conventional superhero action.

Prince William’s enthusiasm for Nolan also reflects the director’s broader appeal: his films invite audiences to grapple with complex ideas without sacrificing cinematic excitement. The Prince of Wales’ conversation with Norton ultimately offered a welcome mix of family life and personal interests, showing a side of the royal that official engagements rarely capture.
