Before Taylor Sheridan built sprawling television empires and turned the American West into appointment viewing, he was trying to survive in Los Angeles. The man now behind some of television’s biggest dramas once found himself unable to make enough money to keep a roof over his head, forcing him into a six-month stretch of living out of his car.

Now, with another passion project galloping onto primetime, Sheridan is looking back at just how dramatically his life changed.

Speaking in an interview with Town & Country, Taylor Sheridan opened up about the difficult years before his Hollywood breakthrough. He revealed that he was homeless in Los Angeles twice because he simply could not make enough to cover his rent and living expenses, with one stretch forcing him to live in his car for six months. Long before he was creating television empires, Sheridan was simply fighting to stay afloat.

“I could have decided at any point, I’m going to go get a full-time job, and I’m going to give up this dream. And I chose to sleep in my car over that.” Sheridan said to Town & Country.

Those difficult years, as revealed in Town & Country, eventually gave way to a very different life, with Sheridan now spending hours riding horses at his ranch and using long drives and cattle drives as a creative escape. He says some of his best ideas come during those stretches, and that passion has now galloped straight into primetime with The Run for a Million, a high-stakes horse-reining competition featuring 16 elite riders competing for a $1 million prize.

Sheridan has called it the “Super Bowl of horse riding” and recalled being told people would never pay to watch a horse show, only to prove otherwise by selling it out. The project also features familiar Sheridan-universe stars, including Sylvester Stallone and Arielle Kebbel.

But while horses remain close to Sheridan’s heart, his Hollywood machine is showing no signs of slowing down.

After Yellowstone, Dutton Ranch, and The Run for a Million, Taylor Sheridan is hardly showing any signs of slowing down. Tulsa King Season 4 is expected to return in October 2026, with Sylvester Stallone back as Dwight Manfredi and Terence Winter returning as head writer and executive producer. Meanwhile, Mayor of Kingstown is also set for late 2026, bringing Jeremy Renner’s prison drama back for its fifth and final season.

And Sheridan’s pipeline stretches well beyond this year. Frisco King, the Tulsa King spin-off starring Samuel L. Jackson, is moving toward a 2027 debut, with Sheridan writing all eight episodes of its first season. Landman Season 3 is also in the works for a 2027 return, keeping Billy Bob Thornton’s West Texas oil drama alive as Sheridan continues stacking one project after another onto his already enormous slate.

From surviving in his car to running one of television’s busiest creative empires, Taylor Sheridan’s journey has taken a remarkably wild turn. And with more new projects still charging toward the screen, his Hollywood run is showing little sign of slowing down.
