At this point, it may be harder to find an Oscar conversation that does not include Inde Navarrette’s name. Ever since Obsession transformed into one of 2026’s biggest breakout phenomena, praise for the actress’ unsettling turn as Nikki Freeman has snowballed into full-blown awards speculation. Yet while the internet is busy envisioning nomination morning, Navarrette appears far more invested in protecting her peace than getting swept up in the frenzy. Still, with the buzz showing no signs of slowing down, many believe it may only be a matter of time before the conversation reaches Hollywood’s biggest stage.

Speaking to Gold Derby, Inde Navarrette was asked whether she was hoping for an Oscar nomination for her breakout role in Obsession. While the actress admitted the possibility is not something she ignores, she made it clear that she is not allowing herself to get consumed by awards speculation. Describing herself as “very sensitive,” Navarrette explained that she prefers to protect her peace and avoid becoming overly invested in an outcome that may or may not happen.
“It’s not that I don’t care about it. Like I said earlier, I’m very sensitive, so I kind of want to protect my peace. I don’t want to get too excited about something that may or may not happen. So, I’m kind of just taking it day by day and being excited about what that day brings,” Navarrette told Gold Derby.
That measured response comes amid a remarkable run for Obsession, which has rapidly evolved from a $750,000 independent horror film into one of 2026’s biggest success stories. Written and directed by Curry Barker, the psychological thriller premiered at TIFF before exploding at the global box office, grossing more than $234 million worldwide within its first month.
Navarrette’s chilling portrayal of Nikki Freeman has emerged as one of the film’s most celebrated elements, with many viewers citing her unsettling performance opposite Michael Johnston as a major reason behind the movie’s growing awards-season momentum.
However, while fans can hardly stop praising Navarrette’s performance, it now seems even Spider-Man star Tom Holland has fallen under Nikki’s spell.
Tom Holland joins the growing Obsession phenomenon
During a recent appearance on Spanish talk show El Hormiguero, Tom Holland couldn’t hide his admiration for Obsession, revealing that the film delivered one of his favorite theater experiences in recent memory. The actor recalled watching the horror sensation in a packed auditorium where audiences were screaming, laughing, and crying throughout the screening, calling it a reminder of everything that makes the theatrical experience so special. Holland also praised the film’s craftsmanship, describing it as highly entertaining while singling out the cast for their performances.
“I went to see it in a full theater. People were screaming, laughing, crying. It was exactly what makes going to the movies so special. The movie was so well-made, so entertaining, the actors in it are fantastic" Holland shared during a Spanish talk show El Hormiguer.

Meanwhile, it turns out Obsession’s unsettling world may not be finished haunting audiences just yet. Curry Barker recently confirmed that Anything but Ghosts exists within the same universe as Obsession, establishing a direct connection to the mysterious One Wish Willow mythology that fueled the events of the earlier film. While details remain under wraps, the revelation suggests that the supernatural force behind Nikki and Bear’s nightmare still has more stories left to tell.
While whether Navarrette ultimately takes home Oscar gold remains to be seen, Obsession fans can breathe a little easier knowing the Nikki phenomenon is far from over.
