Andrew Garfield has issued a stark warning to the world's wealthiest individuals ahead of his upcoming historical drama, The Uprising. In an era where the rich continue to accumulate unprecedented wealth while economic disparity widens globally, the actor's latest project serves as both a mirror and a message to those at the top of the financial pyramid.

History has shown that such extreme inequalities often precede turbulent social upheavals, from revolutions to widespread unrest. And Garfield's new film explores precisely this volatile dynamic.

Andrew Garfield spoke about The Uprising during a Q&A with TheMovieReport.com alongside director Paul Greengrass ahead of the movie's launch this week, where he did not mince words about his hopes for how the ultra-wealthy might receive the film.

"And I hope that if any billionaires watch it, that they're scared s******," Garfield stated bluntly, emphasizing that the story should serve as a cautionary tale for those who benefit from systemic inequality. 

The Uprising depicts the Peasants' Revolt of 1381, a historical rebellion fueled by King Richard II's brutal poll tax that disproportionately burdened the poorest members of English society. Garfield plays Ploughman, a farmer who rises to lead the rebellion against oppressive feudal lords, with some marketing materials hinting at connections to Robin Hood mythology.

Despite being set 700 years ago, both Garfield and Greengrass emphasized to TheMovieReport.com that the narrative speaks directly to modern concerns about wealth concentration and social justice.The film's tagline, "there will be no peace until we are healed," encapsulates the message Garfield hopes will resonate with audiences, particularly those at the pinnacle of wealth.

While The Uprising looks backward to medieval England, Garfield's next project turns its gaze toward the near future of technology and power.

The first trailer for Artificial has arrived, offering a haunting glimpse into Luca Guadagnino's dramatization of the 2023 OpenAI boardroom coup that briefly ousted CEO Sam Altman, played by Andrew Garfield. The narrative centers on the five-day upheaval in November 2023 when OpenAI's board abruptly fired Altman, only to reinstate him after employee and investor backlash forced a reversal.

Monica Barbaro portrays Mira Murati, who served as interim CEO during the crisis, while Yura Borisov plays co-founder Ilya Sutskever, a key figure in the effort to remove Altman. The film itself became entangled in the very drama it depicts, with Amazon MGM Studios dropping the project in June 2026 shortly after announcing a major partnership with OpenAI.

Neon subsequently acquired distribution rights, positioning Artificial as a key contender in the upcoming awards season. The movie will premiere at the New York Film Festival on October 5 before opening in select US theaters on December 25, 2026, with an international rollout scheduled for January 2027.
